What did you spend your ZT-0777 money on?

I am serious! I had put back some serious money for this much awaited knife. I am retired - money is more scarce these days - and there are seemingly more hands out for my meager funds. Promised delivery in days - from stock - at Blade this year just hasn't materialized. For me, the time to move on has passed. I had a chance to correct my dropped pre-order of a Benchmade special - they had a few left - one less now. Add another BM and a Spydie Native 5 - and I still had enough to put down as a deposit for a few days on the Gulf. Odd how far over half a kilobuck will go! I understand that ZT has had problems getting this knife to market. Still, they had to foresee some of this.

I love my ZT-0551s and 0561 - not to mention my Tilt!. They were delivered in a fair amount of time - with proper pre-sell - and, ranging from $200-$280, they were affordable. The 'triple seven' was always to be significantly more costly - may really be worth the cost in time and dollars - just not to me - now. Sure, eventually they'll come out - my local sharp thing emporium will have them. I'll look at them - maybe even fondle one. I'll likely compare them to the William Henry knives in an adjacent display, cost wise. Maybe I'll have forgotten the angst of waiting by then. Best of luck to ZT/Kershaw here... but I just couldn't keep waiting. Anyone else do similarly?

I don't know if I will buy one or not. I do know I would rather they take their time and release the amazing knife that everyone is anticipating rather than rush it. I am sure this will be nothing short of outstanding and completely worth the wait :).

It's in the bank patiently waiting.

That's where it will stay until the knife is ready and I get that inspiring email.

Good things come to those who wait.

Pictures of your new benchmade when you have time please!

best

Same here......They drove me to MicroTech.:D

Actually I just wanted to see the design first hand. I did blow some money set back for the Matrix on a VECP.

Literally taking their time. Nothing against kershaw/ZT, I firmly believe the 561 is the best production knife to date and will get the s110v cf version. I just don't get how I was able to get a knife that's more complex in every way, with fit and finish that are light years beyond some customs, in 2-3 weeks after its intro at Blade 2012, and only 4 guys max in the the shop.

Again, not hating on ZT, but I think a proper mise en place may have prevented some people from losing interest

It took a good while for the Tilt to hit the market, as I remember. How long has it been with this model?

Tragically funny thread! Actually, the 0777 was gonna be my first >$500 knife. ...but then it never (or STILL hasn't) made it out. Hell, I even considered paying $700 for a hinderer! Then I really started doing a little more research on Shirogorov. Man I'm glad I did!!! My model 95 "Hati" is easily the nicest knife I've ever owned. I couldnt be happier with it! When they first introduced the 0777 I immediately thought it was a mistake, given the time frame to production. I don't know what the deal is with Microtech, but I will say that Marifione must be a badass... If he DID steal the ideas, he sure cranked out the knives fast! ...especially since I'd be surprised if MTs operation is 1/10th the size of KAI (Kershaw/ZT). I will say though, with a heavy heart... "THANK YOU for introducing me to Shirogorov, Kershaw"!

I think it's cool to have them make a sweet @$$ blade with the materials they are. So be it that it costs that much, and might take 3 yrs to come out. Don't like it?, can't wait?, buy something else. No big deal. Someone else will be happy to take your place. Personally I didn't spend the money on anything, because I never preordered one. They look badass and I would love to handle one, but it's not for me. I could never abuse a knife I paid that much for and will never use.

I just bought my first Shirogorov, the model 95 which comes next week. I'm soo excited! Got any pics you can pm me of yours?

Even if it took another year for the 777 to come out, Kershaw would still have a ways to go before catching up to some other popular companies in the waiting game.
I think people's patience got spoiled by Kershaw's unusually fast release times.

Have to admit I did contemplate cancelling my order on the 777 as well but when I found out they changed the steel, I decided to wait it out since I have no other knives that are true flippers and are really this elegant of a design that I wouldn't feel to bad about using. That and I'm kind of a steel snob and I'm curious about Vanax 35 and what it can do. Don't get me wrong I'm not going to dismantle a house and pry the floor boards apart using the handle as a fulcrum for my foot, but I will carry and use it the same as any of my other edcs. I mean I have a custom strider that is way more than this that I have played with just so I can say I have used/carried my knives at least once.

That being said, I can definately say that I can sympathize with those of you that just can't bear to save the funds for what they see as an extravagance or unnecessary in such pressing times where budgets are clamping ever tighter. I'm pretty sure that in all honesty this may be one of my last high end knives for this year at least which sucks since browsing these threads in the multiple forums make me want to make it rain to the pockets of so many different makers and their models it makes my head spin. It is what it is though. Sorry for getting a little off topic.

Shirogorov knives are awesome, I have handled a few and they are very nice knives.

The most anticipated knife ZT has ever put out, and it is still not here?. That is the only reason I picked up the Matrix, and ZT has there work cut out trying to produce a nicer version. As crappy as their business practices are Microtech builds one heck of a knife, based on the ones i've had.

What happened to Thomas?

Just taking a short breather from the forums Jim said that in another thread. Gotta sleep sometime right? :D

Don't worry. When asked Thomas said:

Here is my ZT-0777 moola well spent:

004-8.jpg

Top down:

BM 950-1201 Rift, '2012 Forum Knife - one of 300', in CF scales and CPM-M4 - $188 shipped
Spyderco Native 5 in S35VN & G10 - $97 inc s/t + NIB (Old stock - from W-W) Native 4
BM 482 'Me Gumby' CF & cocobolo - S30V - $145 OTD @ lgs

That's $430 out of pocket - plus CC deposit on condo at Gulf Sores. Oops - Freudian slip - my feet get sore doing the obligatory barefoot beach walking. It's Alabama's Gulf Shores - the true Red-Neck Riviera (I'd rather be hiking in The Smokies... could have something to whittle. Never whittle driftwood from the beach... with your knife!). Truth be told, I may already have spent all of the moola... theoretically, I have enough left for a Mora knife... hmmmm, driftwood whittler?

Besides, I thought Vanax 35 was a tranquillizer. How are they going to top my favorite ZTs - the 551/561? The Tilt! is a distant third by comparison, even if it was the most dear. Yeah, it was a longer wait than the ZTs - nothing like the 0777. ZT should have selected an available Bohler steel - the cost of their finest name-dropper steel would be a teeny teeny part of that $600 price tag. Sometimes it's good to know when/where to draw the line on a new techno-product and produce it as you can. Ask Chevrolet about their 'Volt'! I do wish them good luck (Kershaw/ZT, that is!). I also hope my antagonism wasn't causal in T.W.'s sabbatical from the forum - he really is a fine fellow. Fair winds, good fellow.

I think those that just wait for the release of the 0777 will be very happy that they did. I know that its been a long wait but we have no idea what goes on behind the scenes at KAI/ZT and I have zero doubt that they want to get the knife out as soon as they possibly can. Sometimes it helps to think of the anticipation as part of the fun of getting a new knife. Hang in there guys. :D
