What do you carry in your bag?

I ride a motorcycle to work everyday. Since I wear a different backpack depending on whether I need to stop somewhere and pick something up or if I am carrying my laptop, I decided to get a small bag that I could throw in any backpack I was wearing that had my everyday "necessities".

I picked up one of these:

http://www.lapolicegear.com/diplomat-tactical-organizer-nylon.html

Which I highly recommend!

In it I carry:
4 standard plastic pens
1 nice steel pen
1 thick black marker
1 sharpee
business card holder with 20 cards
small paper pad
Inova flashlight
Travel Wrench
CRKT neck knife
Gerber Power Pliers
10 pack of electonics screwdrivers
Black bandana
eyeglasses with case
Sensgard earplugs
Knife Sharpener
Fingernail clippers
Comb

Anyone have something like this? And if so, what do you carry?

I carry a maxpedition pygmy falcon 2 every day.

In it:
Blue walmart binder
2 Pilot brand pens, made in the US, write smooth, cheap, very nice:thumbup:
One Biology textbook, sometimes german 1
Two paperbacks
Sunglasses and case
Glasses with case
Wooden pencils by papermate
A couple mechanical pencils by china brand, very nice still
papermate black eraser, very nice leaves no marks, doesn't get all graphity
spare .7 lead...
Gum

Good choice on ordering from Lapolice gear, just a note for anyone considering buying from them they DO NOT keep realtime invintory on the website so call or email them to check if things are availible.

My "vehicle" bag is a bit different, but you know different strokes for different folks. Its also not so much a bag as a large duffle-esk rangebag.

6 PMags (loaded)
12 AA Batteries
12 123 Batteries
4 Chemlights
4 IR Chemlights
1 E1B Backup Surefire Flashlight
5 Pairs EP3 Sonic Defenders
1 Knife (Benchmade)
1 Oakley Goggle (RX)
1 Oakley Goggle
1 Oakley M-Frame (RX)
1 Oakley M-Frame
1 18inch Fubar
1 Extended IFAK
2 9v strobe (IR and visible combo)
4 9v batteries
16 Bungee cords (various sizes)
2 Rachet Tie Downs
12 Extra Large Zipties
2 Rolls 100mph tape
75 or so assorted length zipties
4 Trashbags
1 Pack baby wipes
5 Energy bars
6 Cans/bottles of random type of energy drink
1 Container Lube
1 Admin Pouch (Pens, notepad, maps, etc)
1 Random Pouch (Specific to task)
1 "Other" Pouch (items that cannot be listed)

Everything is sorted and bagged (if needed in ziplocks) and is easily grabbed when in a rush.

I think what ednemo is talking about isn't his daily loadout, just a compact insert for the items he always carries, that can be switched from pack to pack as he uses a different pack for different purposes.

I do the same, and used a Spec-Ops Brand Packrat for a while, which is very similar to the LAPolicegear bag he has.

Thats not my daily load out, thats the bag we keep in the vehicle at all times (though depending on vehicle and location the PMags might be removed). It serves as a "oh **** I forgot something" or "oh **** we need to fix something" bag. No matter which vehicle i'm in the bag comes with me as it has items that come in handy all the time.

If we wanted to do daily loadout there woud be more "entertaining" items on the list :D

i also use a packrat inside my maxpedition pack (i dont remember what model the pack is) the packrats are cool, imho, i carry a lotta stuff in mine, a L2 surefire, 2 spare 123's, a SAK ranger, a leatherman juice, milton air gauge, pens, pencils, ciggarette liter, spyderco SE delica, benadryl, advil, other meds, 2 extra kahr mags & a bud nealy amoeba.

I have to say, these types of threads are extraordinarily helpful in finding things that a person has forgotten to carry and drastically needs to be added to their list.

With my bag, Esav Benyamin is on the money with his recognization that mine is really just a helpful insert of stuff that I need and can be useful that I would like with me at all times. I went as large as I could with the pouch without taking up much more valuable real estate within my backpacks.

I just recently ordered a Maxpedition Kodiak bag as it will hold my work laptop and that will be my new everyday bag. Of course, unlike most everybody else, riding a motorcycle leaves me with very little room for a dedicated bag just for emergency gear. So, I am now trying to come up with some extra gear in as small of packages as possible. (I also forgot to mention that I keep a blaze orange BIC lighter in my little bag.)

The additions I will be adding to my new backpack:
electric tape
20ft of 550 paracord
small first aid kit
18" zipties
zipbaggies
trashbag

Any necessities I am missing that anyone can recommend?

I've got the lighter. :)
Clif Bar is a great idea though. How long do they last?

I just picked up a few cases the other day. Expiry date is: 06JAN10.

They make about a half dozen types of bars in different sizes and dozens of flavors. Good source of emergency calories. They even make a Builder's bar in several flavors with 270 calories and 20 g soy protein that actually tastes good.

When I'm out doing the work I go through 2 or 3 CLIF bars and several double espressos and that keeps me going until dinner. Outstanding product that has greatly improved since it was first introduced. Five years ago they tasted like oatmeal and drywall.

Multitool and a Chemlight (glowstick), Quick Clot and a Tourniquet in the first air kit along with some bandages, also a Shroud cutter is handy to have. Don't forget a space blanket as well. Also a small bottle of Hand sanitizer and some latex/nitrile gloves are a must to have with your first aid pack. A Airway device (CPR) is also good to have in your kit.

However the number one thing I reccommend is TRAINING! Some first aid training is a huge thing to have.

I know to some a Turni and Quick Clot seems a bit extreme to have in a "Normal" pack or first aid kit, however if you ever need it your going to thank your lucky stars you packed one. You never know when you may come across a accident scene where one is required before the first responders can get there. You may never use it, then again you may, and if you come into a situation where one is needed and you don't have one as you thought it was "pointless" your going to be regretting it for a great deal of time.

Excellent suggestions! As for the training, I've done 2 week long courses for emergency assistance as well as having some practical personal experience through another job. You never can get enough though.

For every item in your first aid kit you should have training on that item. Gloves/sanitizer included and ESPECIALLY training when it comes to a tourni, you want both appling a tourni to yourself and to someone else also its key to learn when one is needed and when one isn't. You'd be supprised at how many people will put a tourni on someone that doesn't need it and end up doing a great deal of damage due to it.

The other item I forgot to list is a good pen and notepad. You never know when you need it. I'd reccommend getting a "Tacticool" pen that can double as a window breaker in a pinch (IE 1 piece metal pen) you can find them for under $50 and most use Fisher/Foray refill making them a high quality writer.

Personally I carry a Tuff Writer (http://www.tuffwriter.com/) and its been treating me very good. I've already used it to punch out a window at a accident scene and then lend to the officer taking statements a few minutes later...Still worked like a dream. I've done stuff with it that would have broken any other pen (including running it over on accident) and its still going strong.

Are you sure about that? Pilots are the only pens I use, but I thought they were all made in Japan. My EDC pen is a Hi-Tec-C and it's very much Japanese (a BFC member turned me onto them about a year ago). But, if I'm going to be doing a lot of writing, I'll put my G-2 Limited (metal body) in my pocket, and it's stamped Japan on the back.

Doesn't really matter where they're made, they're great pens.

Now back to the regularly scheduled topic.

I carry a Maxpedition Jumbo Fatboy sling pack. I also use it as a seat organizer in my passenger car seat by putting the strap around the headrest.

Pack holds:
8-in-1 torx tool
Mini and medium Moleskine notebooks
Victorinox Rambler
Small tube of Udderly Smooth hand cream
Sunglasses, case, bottle of lens cleaner
Cellphone
Fenix TK11 and PD20 flashlights
4 CR123 batteries in holder
Pilot G2 mini and reg pens
Mini sharpie
Spare change
Seldom used keys
Gum
Earplugs
Band aids
Plastic bands (rubber bands but better)
Advil liquigels
...I probably missed something.

It looks like I am in pretty good shape. Today I received my Maxpedition Kodiak (and I love it!). I am working on my First Aid Kit and should have it finished by this weekend. With the exception of the hand cream, chemical lights, and space blanket, I have a version of everything everyone mentioned with enough room left over to throw in any thing I need to carry from point A to Point B.

The one thing I was interested in adding is of fairly substantial weight. I was debating between throwing in a dedicated prybar/hammer. I was checking out the Stanley Fubars and the Becker Tac Tool but decided I didn't want to carry the weight or pay the money.

I appreciate everyone's help on this!

Now I just need to sell one of my rifles for some extra dough to pick up another handgun and I will be in perfect shape.

Or get one of these. Cheap, tough, and lighter than either of your options. Have posted about 'em before. No I don't get a cut of them.

That would be perfect. Unfortunately I would not be able to add it without a sheath for it. Do you know of a off the rack sheath that would fit?

I just ordered a bunch of stuff from County Comm. Some great deals there. Now I just need to find a sheath or pouch for the chisel.

Thanks for the heads up.

Sorry I just got back to this thread. No off-the-shelf sheaths AFAIK. They have pics of them in kydex on the site. You might ask them where they were done.
