What do you prefer bait or Lures?

98% of my fishing I use artificial lures (all), & all of it is freshwater. I fish the majority of the time for bass. However, when the 5 year old grandson wants to "go wet a line", we pick up some grub or wax worms for the bluegill adventure. When you are 5, it is definitely quantity, not quality that matters . . . . :)

I prefer artificials but do not hesitate to use live bait. Catching channel cats on dipbaits is a lot of fun . Carp on dough balls or corn , I do a lot of that. Nightcrawlers catch everything. Why do you ask?

Artificial lures, i spent a good part of my time fishing Mahi-Mahi and tuna and pilot fish over in the mediterainian sea...
(Salt water)

dd, I am just the opposite of you. I have fished a lot of tournaments the past 35+ years, so the majority of my equipment is geared towards lures, & that is what I am most comfortable with. My son, like dipbait, fishes the majority of his time for catfish & carp, hence, he uses more live bait. I have tried live bait a few times, especially at night when we go camping, but I just can not sit and wait on the fish to come to me. Nothing wrong with either way to fish, makes for an enjoyable conversation at the end of the day as to which way is the most productive . . . . :D

Freshwater. And a good laugh - Although I could open a small tackle shop with my stuff I catch lots more fish on bait. Of course I mainly use bait on trout and fish for them most often. Jigs and lures for bass and crappie and perch and fish for those only when a friend takes me out on his boat on Palmer Lake.

Definitely try lures. I waded a river two days ago and caught four different species on lures. That was a slow day. I often catch a half dozen or more different species that way.

JUST1MOR I fished bass tournaments for several years. Won a local event and several top five finishes .Won about a dozen club tournaments. My biggest check I split six thousand dollars with a cousin. We kicked butt that weekend.

Right now I am without a boat except for a canoe and two man plastic boat.

What about you? You win any big checks, boats or anything?

DB, back in '92, I won 1 Elite Series @ Guntersville in Alabama, finished top 5 in two more tournaments, & finished 2nd in R.O.Y. race . . . . . . . . . . .
and then my alarm went off . . . . . :D :D
Seriously, biggest check I won was $2000.00, split 60/40 with my sponsor, a few odds and ends in gear, mostly rods and reels, no boats or anything of the like. But my son has fished with me as my partner for the last 11 years, & the memories & the time we spent together on the water made me feel like I won every time . . . . :)

Mostly fish fresh water. It depends on my mood, what I use. If I'm just looking to relax, I use live bait. If I'm getting antsy, I'll use a lure...

A lot of people in this area use PowerBait and have great results. I bought every damn color they make, and have never caught a fish on any of it. I finally took it out of my tackle box.

The last time I fished saltwater, was when I went to Alaska. That was 6 years ago. Caught some great Halibut and King Salmon

DD , jigs and soft plastic or a combination of are by far my most successful lures. They catch all species of games fish and even non gamefish and can be fished anywhere from top to bottom. Texas rigged ,soft plastics are the most snagless lures there are. .I have had a bunch of 100 bass days and they have always been on soft plastics.

Inshore salt water fishing here in SW Florida and I really only use live bait. Redfish and Snook make for some good fishing and they go crazy for small pin fish and shiners, and you can always pull Sheepshead off docks with live shrimp. Fishing hasn't been near as good in my area for the past few years since red tide came in a did some serious damage to the fish population :thumbdn:

Freshwater fisherman here. I prefer artificial lures - particularly flies I've tied myself.

I have been fishing for over 40 years and am pretty much a live bait guy. I consider worms, crickets, minnows and dough the most reliable way to get alot of fish. That said I have a ton of lures and do use them and have had some success with them, but I have fished in clear wtater and run four or five different lures past a school of fish with little to no reaction, and then I put a live bait in front to them and the bites are on! This has happened dozens of times, and it makes we wonder how good lures really are when you can actually see the difference like I have.....

I pretty much only fish freshwater and dominantly trout in streams and rivers. I prefer artificial lures as long as you don't need to get too deep or the current is too strong. Strong and deep is a tough combination to fish with lures.

I play around fishing warm water lakes for bass and so forth. I am usually using lures unless I have kids with me.

All freshwater fishing up here in Canada and I exclusively use lures..Mepps #2's will catch the large mouth here like you wouldn't believe
