What do you think of my design?

The lock could be a lockback, a rolling lock or a axis lock. It depents on who would make it. As far as I can tell the would all work. I don't much care for linerlocks, so non of that.

There are at this moment no plans to produce it (I am ownly a poor history student). Though if somebody should want to they are free to use it.

To me this was an exercise in designing a folder that would, for me, be close to the ultemate using folder for both utillity and
self-defence. The first more than the latter though. I designed it also becourse I couldn't find execly what I was looking for on the market. And it was fun to do.

It kinda reminds me of the James Keatings Spyderco prototypes I saw at the Blade Show last year.

Reminds me of a cross between a Buck Goliath blade with a SpyderCo Goddard handle. With a rolling lock that would be one heavy duty utility knife.

Hehehe!

You'd think that you had asked "who were this knife's parents."

Guess I'm guilty, too, comparing it to a folding Trail Guide in the general forum

JD - It is a very nice design. I hope it was fun to create.

With more than 65 models of Clipits, all with round holes, it is difficult to create a totally new design that doesn't look like something else.

The blade size that you have cannot work with a lockback. There is not enough room at the spine of the handle to fit a lever and spring holder. It would work as a linerlock, but if that is out, you will have to go with Axis, Rolling or one of the exotic locks like the Pitman.

More stuff to work on; the distance between the opening hole center and the pivot center works best at certain lengths. Compare to other Spydercos. Will it have a clip? Tip up or down? Edge type? I assume that it is flat ground?. Handle material? Blade material? Overall sizes? It seems that you have a good start. Keep at it. My first design was much worse.

Thank you all for you replies!

Yes, the handle was inspired by the Goddard.

Handle material would be G10 or carbon fiber or micarta, depending on the price. No zytel, I prefer a knife with a little class.

Blade material would be, in order of preference: CMP420, CMP440, Boye Cobald, BG 42 and 440C.

The blade would be "1/8 thick and have a thin edge. It is a cutting knife, not a prybar. And it would be flat ground.

It would have a clip, ofcourse, I like clippits! I think tip down, I think both tip up and tip down would work with this design.
