What is a fair price for a used canoe?

I'd like to get a cheap, used canoe. We moved in April and our new house has a large pond behind it. It would only be used I there, so nothing fancy. Prices I see are all over the place.

That's because the prices of new canoes are all over the place, just like cars and trucks. While there are a number of price guides for used vehicles I'm not aware of anything similar for used canoes. I think you'll have to research the prices of new canoes and use those numbers to determine fair prices for used canoes.

I've seen old scraped up fiberglass, dented up aluminum, and scraped up molded plastic canoes for @ $200. They show up a couple of times a year usually in the winter. This time of year figure on @ $300 for a water tight craft.

Really depends on condition. If it's fibreglass and any repairs look sound , ok. Look for wear on the keel ( bottom) near the ends if it's worn thru from beaching it on sand or gravel. Make sure the seats are sound and not rotton.

I paid 450 for my 15' fibreglass one , but new Pelicans were around $400. They are polycarbonate or something though and not fibreglass. I'm looking for an aluminum Grumann right now with a square stern. Hard to find! A lot of folks say good things about them.

I myself would be looking to budget around $500 give or take for a fibreglass 15-16' in good shape.
