I am still deciding on what model Kuhk to buy...but I keep hearing about a model 43...what is it????????????

Thanks,

-Robert

It is basically a sharply curved AK with a chiruwa style tang. It feels good in the hand because of it's grip shape.

It has a cult following.

Well, people need something to fuss over.

M43

A rare species of khuk. Rumored to live in caves. Likes the company of Durbas. May travel in packs, possibly in the company of waterfowl or one-legged dancing girls.

:D

The Cave Dweller said he'd let M43's go to other people. If I'm not mistaken, the last two went without a peep from him. He was either unconscious or true to his word...

Check out the pics for the deals of 9/25. The M43 is designed after a khuk that was in use during WWII I believe. It is a pretty cool design. By the way, your handle doesn't refer to Reid Fleming (the world's toughest milkman) does it? :D

Mine? No. Tell me about Flemming.

btw; you won't go wrong with an M43, but that wouldn't neccesarily be my choice of a first khukuri. Do you envision chopping wood? Backpacking? Martial arts practise? Scaring neighbors? General camping?

Maybe he's got a breeding population. ;)

Reid Fleming, world's toughest milman... He drinks rye whiskey and smokes pot; drives his milk truck a thousand miles an hour; and beats people up. His favorite line is "I thought I told you to shut up." It's an underground comic book.

I had the first nine Zap comics until they were stolen.

Underground comics failed because they left the psychological/inner world for the slapstick and political, with a healthy dose of PC to boot. I hope that is changing now. I no longer collect comics so don't watch the trends.

Yea, I'm not much into comics. My roomate in college was into Reid Fleming...and Flaming Carrot...and Ran Xerox... I always found the premise behind Reid Fleming kind of funny. He's an obnoxious jerk who throws milk bottles at his cutomers. He's fat, stocky, balding, with a bulbous nose. A real nightmare. The content and storyline of the comic was pretty bad, though.

Wow,

Leave for a couple of hours ans see what you get!

No, it is not for your psycho milkman...it is for Robert, as in may name!

I just want a khuk, all around good, no specific task, just want one!
-Robert

P.s. thanks for the help

BAS or 15" AK - Good for general use and they're not too big to carry.

I don't own an M43. At least not yet :D

You can't eat just one!

Actually, you can't eat any, but I don't think anyone on the forum whose been around for more than a few months can claim they only have one khuk.

BTW - BAS is a nice first khuk. Small (but it will look huge until you see your first 18 incher), inexpensive workhorse. 16 or 18" sirupati would be nice, too.

Yous guys gots its alls wrongs

Heres M43s withs bigsisters M42s

For a nice all around khuk, try either the WWII 16.5" or the WWII 18".

The 18" WWII approaches the perfect feel ( in my humble opinion ) and rightness for almost any purpose.

The 16.5" WWII feels a bit smaller but still exudes the same competent capability and "do anything" it's asked attitude.

Either one would suffice to make Linus ( in Peanuts ) lose his blanket for a khuk.

It's like the debate over 308 vs. 30-06. The 308 is loaded to duplicate the M-2 loading of the 30-06. It does so. The 30-06, during the same time has had it's civilian loads upped due to technological improvements in powder. for practical purposes, anything hit well by either is never going to know the difference. Same with the 16.5" vs 18" WWII's. You may have heard the saying " There ain't much that a man can't fix, with enough money and a 30-06. "??? A guy with a 30-06 and either WWII is even more capable of fixing things.

I think Rusty is right in his size recs. Every 15"er I've tried has a handle that is too small for me. The 16-18"ers seem to fit myself, and anyone I've let handle them, better.

Re: the M-43s, they're not great choppers, rfleming. But, I've come to love them. Kesar and Kumar make the best ones, IMO - curvier than the other kamis. Although, I've fallen hard for Sher's straighter, hidden tang, "improved" version.
