I just got the latest A.G. Russell catalog. It says the handle and sheath of the new SERE Operator are "molded of Prylon". Does anyone know what this is?

It's probably some breed of fiberglass impregnated thermoplastic a la Zytel. I've seen this knife before. The scales are slightly textured for a secure grip.

it felt more like a G10 than Zytel when I hels it, but not qquite...linda in between. how's that for a totally unscientific answer?

Great knife in the hand -- light and fast, yet has presence!

I called Al Mar and talked with G Fadden a bit about it. He said it's a plastic with about 30% (I think) glass in it...which makes it "tough as sin." (his words)
I compared it to Kydex, he said that it was not like kydex, which can lose shape in extreme (hot) environments-Prylon is more rigid.

I can't wait for this knife to come out!
cheers, and hope I helped
Derek
