What Kind Of Buttcap

I decided to build a spearpoint hunter today. I'm about ready to start finishing the parts now but I can't decide on a buttcap. I considered rounded walnut and that's high on the list or just a steel cap. The whole thing is going to be browned and I'd brown the cap too if I put it on.

Any other ideas?

Naw...Just Deer antler. I can't even take credit for shooting it. It's a shed I found this year.

First off nice knife. I really like the spear point look. If it were me I would match the guard and buttcap. For some reason I think it just looks better the way everything sorta goes together. Thats how I think it would look best. Make sure to post pics of it when its all finished.

Yep, I'd match the buttcap to the guard. Same material, same thickness.

I vote for steel....
Just more pleasing to the eye.
Please post Pictures when it is done...

I made the steel buttcap tonight. What a difference! It's almost nice looking.....I've discovered my biggest fault....I have no taste!

Thanks Everyone

Peter I wouldn't say that....
All I do when it comes to wondering about a buttcap on a knife like this is to set the handle then check the balance. If it not going to make the knife to heavey or off balnce to the handle I will put a thick piece on or I will make one out of a thinner piece to get the balance point better,if it is already handle heavey I will just seal off the end and leave it alone.I feel that the feel and balance can be more important sometimes than a little dress up on the knife. Now if you know someone is going to abuse it and pound on the end of the handle then a buttcap is a no brainer and has to be put on in some thickness.
Try this philosophy and see if it doesn't help you in deciding what gets a buttcap and what doesn't.
Hope this helps some, and are just my ideas.

I don't think it's a matter of taste as much as the fact that you know you only have so many shots at making this knife right, so you worry about little decisions like this. They look obvious to us because it ain't our knife.
