I don't have much experience with flashlights other than with maglites, legend Lx, rebel Led by Legend as well as the inova x5's.

My requirements are a light that has a decent staying power. It is fine and dandy if the light is the brighteset in the world, if it cannot sustain any brightness for very long it is useless.

I like the Inova x5 but I wish there was something like it with some more focus to it. Drawing from my limited expereince, the Legend Lx has some great power but the staying power leaves a lot to be desired. It takes lith Ion batteris with a life time of only and hour or so?

Would anyone recommend the browing odyesy 4000? Is it worth the money?

Sounds like you need a SureFire E2e-HA and a KL1.
It's good over four hours of digitally regulated output from a pair of SF123As.
Very easy to carry too!

I would go with a X5 to start. its cheap, durable, Waterproof, bright, and has a 20 hour runtime, you just arnt going to beat that. Then i would start looking at the 2/3 Cell SF's for situations where you need LOTS of light. Me personally i have a Innova X5T for EDC and at night I will also carry my SF M2.

I have an Inova X5T and although it makes a good flood light it doesn't have a lot of throw. You might want to check out some of the reviews at ledmuseums.org before making up your mind.Make sure you read the review on Ledcorps "Turtlelight",its one of the few LED flashlights with a focused beam. Its uses cheap AA's and burns for days.

Unless you are looking for a small flashlight, there's really nothing at-all wrong with the Maglite that holds 2 "C-cell" batteries, especially if you get one of those hi-intensity bulbs for it.

Hey Mrd74, I tried the webpage but it don't work.

I have seen many ppl rave about the surfires but I saw the sticker price and decided against it. I am a student with some spending money but spending about 75-90 or so bucks on a flashlight is the farthest I can go. $90 bucks American is about $150 Canadian including the converstion rate as well as charges for money orders.

I am looking for something that is not too big. Say something with the power of a 4 cell maglite or more in as compact a size as possible without it being too expensive

If you are looking for something that does not suck batteries and lasts you may wanna look at Princeton Tec, Underwater Kinetics, or Pelican. The PT Tec 40 is an awesome 4aa light with great staying power and a good beam. The PT Surge is it's big brother with 8aa cells. http://www1.ecxmall.com/stores/texastacticalsupply/Search.bok?category=Princeton+Tec+Lights
On the UK side, they have some great c cell vairations in the SL4 and SL6 . . . not as convenient to carry but great light with good runtime! http://www.brightguy.com/detail_int.tpl?cart=1033350315299256&sku=UND80009
If you do not mind exceptionally tight beams the Pelicans are super and built like tanks! I like the Stealthlight 4aa http://www.brightguy.com/detail_int.tpl?cart=1033350315299256&sku=PEL2400C_BLA
and the Pocket Sabre 2c! http://www.brightguy.com/detail_int.tpl?cart=1033350315299256&sku=PEL1820C_YEL

Hope that helps!:D

Iether a Arc-AAA (Dim but good run time and size)
Arc-LS (BRIGHT! but shorter run time [2 hours])
CMG Ultra (Dim but LONG run)
CMG Reactor (Bright and long)

I picked up one of Browning Odyssey's when they came in, The fact that its good for 700 hours of burn time on a set of batteries and the batteries are just standards you can pick up any where, The light output is good, it will fill a small room with a nice "glow", i doubt anything will beat this light for having around when the power goes out and your stuck at home in the dark, if the power dont make it on in 700 hours then having a light will be the least of your concerns. If your wanting a light that has a exceptional "spot" go with a streamlight 20XL or 30XL or a surefire, But i'm not sure a Surfire is worth the money myself, I bought a Surefire 8NX abuot 3 months ago and it's a good light, but it cost 150 bucks, and I sure dont think its a 150 buck light, I think the money would have been better spent on a streamlight. Just my 2 cents.

The KL1 is supposedly shipping this Tuesday (was supposed to be last Friday).
You can pre-order them from most on-line SureFire retailers.

For those that don't know, the KL1 is a 1W Luxeon LED adapter that will fit on any of the SureFire "E" series (E1/E2/E1e/E2e) as well as on the Streamlight Scorpion.
Approx. US$40.00.

Thanks Al. I've been reading wonderful things about the KL1 and
definitely intend to get one.

If you need a light with some throw, stay away from the Inova's.
A SureFire M2 with the KL3 LED conversion head might be a good & expensive choice or a AA Maglight with a better bulb is always a good small light. Let us know what your applications are what you decide to get.

Does anyone know how much battery time the LED conversions for SF's have?

It's pretty difficult to break a KL1... I'm still working on it. I'll keep you all posted with the results of my field-testing.

You can get a used SureFire 6P ($35-45), plus a KL3 ($45). That"s what I suggest. ;)

Thanks for the website Mrd74. I have been going thru the reviews for the last few days. I have come up with a small list of lights that have intrested me. They are genreally of the smaller and slimmer variety of lights. There prices are also cheaper than what i stated my budget to be due to commitments to buy more knives and trades.

Arc aaa std and ltd
Batonlite(weird batteries but still looks cool)
Lightwave2100/3000. The 4000 is a bit big.
Nightbuster8x(really intrested in this one but review says it is a tad heavy)
turtlelite2. Looks good but bulky.

Surefire 6p also looks good but where would I get the light at that price?

I am generally using the light as an emergency light for the house, and camping.

I am also looking for a light to carry on me. The lightwave and the turtlelite would fall in the camping category naturally while the nightbuster and similair sized lighst for carry on my person.

I wouldn't recommend the batonlight....

It's nice but the expensive batteries combined with its tendency to turn itself on while inside your pocket make for a lousy combination.
The throw is also pretty weak.
