I'm looking at Miltec of course but I've never tried it and I'd hate to have to order and pay s&h on a one ounce bottle of lube but can't find it around here. I'm trying RemOil now and it isn't too bad but i'd like better. Okay I don't seem to be asking a question here...What lube would you choose? Why? Can Miltec be found locally? Where? If not where is it cheapest?

there that covers the basics.

Thanks guys (and gals)

Jump in here guys...? I have a very large and very old hardware store where I can get the litte-guy bottles.., but this is So California.., so you can buy almost anything if you look hard enough.

I used to have a gunsmith friend that always had some, so you might want to call around in your part of Texas and see if anyone orders it regularly and just tell 'em you need about an ounce a year?

Of course there are other good products.., but I have to admit Militec-1 is really good for Balisongs! It took me about a year to be sold, but it's great stuff! <For guns too>!

Spring for the Militec-1. Don't think about the price of the stuff and the S/H separately. The bottle of Militec-1 is worth the total cost.

I've still got about 3 hardware stores and one gunshop I haven't hit yet but things look grim. So about an ounce a year huh? That's not too bad I'd say I might just buy some after all.

You've read Chuck's recent post regarding White Lighting, and I'll second the results. Any wax or grease based lubricant isn't going to fair well in a bali. It'll do more damage by trapping the dust and metal particles, and being turned into a mild abrasive, rather than a lubricant. My old favoritve of synthetic motor oil (Mobile 1) still works somewhat, but it is too viscous and will again act as a dirt trap, not to mention the smell and the residue issues. Tuff Glide works well, but doesn't bond to the metal all that well. Some of the other metal bonding lubricants (like Duralube) kinda work but you need the high heat from a running engine for the chemical bonding to work.

Which leaves Miltec. It's my current lube of choice because of the total metal bonding characteristics, and the fact that a little drop goes a long way. I got my 1 oz supply from Knifezilla for $5.00, and if you order it on top of another item, it's worthwhile.

You see that's my problem. I'm afraid that if I do order some from knifezilla I will order something else.

Sorry Mykl, I fail to see the problem :D .

But seriously, I understand the concern. I've made quite a few purchases from Josh in the last few months.

Militec-1 is simply the best, don't think about it twice. Do yourself a favor and get a bottle ... no ... get two! Seriously, it is the best lubricant that I have used. I would just order it (I have done it before and it worked great, no problems), it's a great product; don't worry about the shipping, it's just a few dollars. But, if you don't want to do this and save a few bucks, you can try local gun and knife shops. Both the knife shop I work in and a nearby gun shop sell it around here.

If there is a local knife shop nearby, which happens to be benchmade distributor, ask them if they carry it. If they don't, ask if they can order it for you. Benchmade now distributes (because they solely use) Militec-1 and they offer it as a product in there catalog.
Good luck,

I broke down this morning after checking the last possible hidding places (the local BM dealer) and not finding any. So I ordered a bottle from Josh at Knifezilla and managed to not order anything else.

As to the IWB sheath I don't think I need on (just yet) as I often wear my deluxe in an angled IWB position anyway.

Thanks guys for your quick and helpful posts.
