What production knife would you like to have done to your specs?

OK, I'm sitting here tired of playing on line chess, basically bored. When this wildly orignal thought came to mind. What of my favorite production knives would I like to have a custom maker completely redo to my specs. The idea was to keep everything about the knife that makes it your favorite production knife.

Mine was easy, AFCK.

Here are my changes -

Same handle profile with one change in #5 on list
Thicker liners - increase to at least .060
Longer back spacer made of Ti
Liner lock flush
serrations on back of liners, not into scales
extend the finger guard so it's a little longer, like an Emerson CQC-8
Set up for right or left tip down carry. (used to be tip up until my finger accident)
Larger diameter washers. I'm thinking maybe bronze
DDR style pivot
same blade profile and grind
Blade made of Talonite, Mod. D2
thumb disc in place of thumb hole.

The over all knife design remains the same, the only real change to the profile is the extension of the finger guard.

NOW, what maker out there will build this for me?
:D

Camillus Mini-Talon.

1. Stretch the blade to a length of 2 3/4".
2. Thin the stock a whisker.
3. Change to a full convex grind.
4. Make the Mini Tek-Lok standard with purchase.

Everything else is perfect on the mini-Talon. The handle scales and sheath are top notch. The dropped point is great. The talonite is awesome.

Spyderco Military

Make 2 versions of the knife: a lightweight G-10 model and a metal heavy duty version.

G-10 Model:

1. Offer different colors of G-10
2. Offer CPM-440v and VG-10
3. Make the liner out of titanium and incorporate a backup saftey feature like the Centrofante
3. Or just use a compression lock

Heavy Duty Version:

1. Make the handle out of black titanium and incorporate a framelock
2. CPM-440v or VG-10

I would Love to see the CRKT Ryan Plan B in a better steel like D2, BG-42, or even Talonite. I think the handle would look great done in camo micarta or G-10 and I would keep the cutouts. I'd also ditch the zytel sheath and give it a nice multi-position kydex sheath.

That knife is just too cool to be AUS6 with a zytel handle and sheath... Now, if we could all just convince CRKT to make one like that!

Great question! Here's what I'd ask production companies to do. I'd go crazy if I had a maker at my beck n' call...

* Super-size a Pikuni. Give it a 4 inch blade and 4.5 inch handle.
* Take a Kershaw Vapor, put G-10 slabs on it, a torsion bar in handle and a flipper on the blade.
* Though it would ruin its aesthetics, I'd put a choil (?) on the MT LCC.
* Use VG-10 for the Delta-Z Osprey.
* Hell, take the entire CRKT line and upgrade it to G-10 and AUS-8 or 440C.
* Make every production folder with left-handed counterparts!

If there was one thing I'd ask a maker to do, it'd be:
* An Onion. A mini Random Task blade at 3.5 inches with a Blackout handle. Give it the torsion bar, the flipper, and holes!

...I had a friend do this for me, and it turned out great!

Put a full (chopping) sharp false edge on the Cold Steel 'Recon Scout'

It lightened the knife considerably, while keeping the full size.

(Lost all the black paint though...sob) ;)

p.s. Nice suggestions on the other ones guys, well thought out!

I have already said this on the CRK forum, But I would like to see a Large plain Sebenza stretched out with a 4" blade of D2. I would also like to see some improvment on the pocket clip to make it harder to lose.I modified mine by taking off about a 1/4" of the tip on the clip. It doesn't reach out and grab things as easily now.

I would have to go with my REKAT. I love the damn thing (Pioneer II Tanto) but if I could sit down with those guys, and get them to "tune" the thing up, I am sure I coule make the thing PERFECT.
I would want simple things, mostly requiring hand tooling, but that would tremendously improve the piece.

I have taken the Dremel out and gone to town on the thing, aand it is about as good as I get make it. I have made it REAL fast but in CT, I tighten up smooth and slow to avoid anything bad.

I had a BM 910M2SBT tuned up by BM, and they made it AWESOME! I just sent them a brief letter asking...no BEGGING them to do it a certain
way...THEY DID! The thing is BAD! So fast, solid, and sharp.

Too bad that it is too big to carry here everyday!

Take care!

A Sebenza with a Spydie hole...or a Spydie with a framelock...whatever.

Flat ground blade, VG10 steel, and in 2 or 3 sizes.

Thanks :)

I'd like a smaller version of my Microtech LCC, with a 3 inch blade. Maybe with either talonite or VG-10 steel.

I would have a dropped point put on my straight handled Battle Mistress and a v-grind instead of the asymmetrical one. Other than that, it is great as it is.

Spyderco Wegner:

  • S30V blade steel
  • Slightly larger opening hole
  • Integral compression lock, or at least dual nested liners with compression lock
  • Drilled and tapped for tip up or down carry

I'd like a "Covert Sebenza".

That would be a Sebenza with Larry Chew's hidden release Voodoo D/A mechanism.

Yep, I know the what the chances are of this combination actually happening.... :)

LOL sas. . .

I'd just be happy with a tactical Sebenza (either large plain or Classic ~ but would prefer a Classic) ! ;)

Or maybe. . .a Mayo TNT in a blacked-out configuration !

REKAT Sifu.

Round & polish ALL the sharp edges of the scales and (inner) liners. (I've done that myself, with NICE results.).

Smooth-out the "action". (I've done that myself, with NICE results.).

Have the pocket-clip "user-changeable" to either side, and tip-up/tip-down.

Install an ambidextrious blade-lock/release.

I'd love to see a CRKT Ryan Model 7 with a better steel, and micarta handles and thicker liners. I put some micarta handles on mine, and it is better, but I feel not up to its full potential.

The idea of a DA Sebenza is really cool, but I wouldn't want to know what it would cost!

Just thought of another one: CRKT KFF

1. Upgrade the steel to VG-10
2. Add a Spyderco hole
3. Frame lock

That would have to be one of the greatest knives ever.

I would make the Spyderco Wegner a bit larger, maybe another 1/2 inch, with a BG-42 blade and a compression lock.

I would like a USMC combat/utility with a oval kraton handle and a 3/16 inch thick 6 inch long 0170-6C blade with a double guard of thicker steel than the current one

Some really good ideas! I've been thinking that maybe I should learn a little bit more about knife making and just do the mods I want on my own! :D
