what steel ?

Oops! I meant the above post to go in existing thread about the Israeli knife made in Shefield. It appears I clicked the wrong button.

You know, I have done this also. Perhaps you could change the body to ask about sharpening steels. I hear the "F. Dick smooth steel" is very good. I also wonder about the grooved steels, and of course diamond steels. Do they make a difference? As for knife steel, I like them all. VG10, and D2 are perhaps my favorites. I also carry good ole 1095. Even Shrade+, queen steel, never less than 440A or AUS 6 though.

Magician, the post was not about which steel is best for knife blades. I had intended it as a reply in a previous thread about the Israeli military knife made in Sheffield, England, and currently sold by some internet dealers. I am asking if anyone knows what kind steel is used to make that knife. One member stated that it is carbon steel, but did not identify which carbon steel.

Another question: What is the reputation of knives made in Sheffield, England ?
