My favorite Spyderco of ALL time was just discontinued.

That's what it says on the Spyderco website anyway. Were sales really that bad? What about the G10 version coming out; is it still going to be produced? Let me know.
Thanks.

What kind of blade steel are we talking? This sounds like it could be a nice new piece to pick up

Just ordered one myself a few days ago when I heard they were dicontinued. I love the kife, but if i didn't find it at a deep discount ($127) I never would have bought it. I think the g-10 will bring down cost and make it more popular.

Knew this one was too good to last. It will probably come back weak.

That Ti Lum Tanto is a sweet knife. I just got mine a couple of weeks ago from Top of Texas Knives ($130). I saw a price list that included the G-10 Lum on some website (can't remember which), but it wasn't that much lower in price ($100-$110?).

Anyway, I really like mine, but it's not really a user for me since I'm afraid to scratch the Ti, and that appleseed grind looks like it would be hard to resharpen properly.

Was the $110 MSRP? Remember, the retail on the ti was originally like $250. Much higher.

No, the price was on a website. I just looked at www.skylandscutlery.com. It is (satin blade) $121.50, but not in stock yet. The site also says that the Lum Chinese Folder is in stock, for anyone who's interested.

Sal replied to my asking about the blade coating for the G10 Lum Tanto a month or two ago that the black coating was requested by one of Spydercos major distributors. So it MIGHT only be availableto certain retailers. (I may be mistaken, though)
Check the Spyderco.com General Forum and do a search for John Row (me)
to see his exact resonse .

That appleseed or convex grind at the tanto edge part of the knife is indeed hard to get extremely sharp, not so much because of the convexivity, but because it is done at a very obtuse angle, I'm guessing 30 degrees non-included, or 60 degrees included.

I tried for a while on a strop with fine sandpaper and with fine grit, but couldn't really get the aggressiveness I wanted.

Also, the lock on my first Lum was not good, pressure (not even a whack) on the blade spine would wedge the lock towards unlocked. They replaced it with one that had a crummy grind at tanto point, 3rd one was acceptable.

I think the Japanese fabricators had a hard time with this model for some reason.
