Yes, I know, I haven't posted in awhile:p.

Last week I ordered several knives from Buck(web specials) a Gen Five Skinner w/ Bone handle and a Vanguard w/ Mirror Polished Blade and Stag handle.

Both very nice knives, quick like a bunny shipping:thumbup:.Thank you, Buck.

They came today...the Gen Five as you can see in the pics has no, none, zilch, nada markings of any kind. Did anyone else get one?

I called Buck and they will replace it...my dilemma is do I want them to replace it?

What to do, what to do??

What would you do?

Preston

You mean they didn't even put a model number on it? Keep it, buy another and if it's the same way, send IT back. That way you still have a boo-boo.

Hi Preston,,

Ya think its a one of a kind or are others like that , with no stampings?

User or collector?

Tough call. If a collectable, will have to keep some doc with it should you ever want to sell it.

Nice looking either way.

Solution is to just get another one like it :D

Hi Brother Preston,
It's been more than a little while...you don't wright, you don't call....and then you just use us for our opinions;)
Do as Ratty said, keep it, the box, packing list and print a copy of your correspondence with Buck. If it a user you want buy another one. Sweet score!

Some of the best though, John...

Thanks, all, for the replies.

It is unique, for sure, no markings at all, don't know if it is a loner. I bought it with it being a user in mind.

I did look back on the 'web specials' page and it is no longer offered.

Even with the box, paperwork and invoice it would be difficult to verify it's heritage down the road. Preston

Interesting. I'm anxious to see how mine is marked or perhaps unmarked when it gets here tomorrow. Sure is a nice looking knife though.

Preston,

I think it's a keeper. You can sell it to me; I'll send it to DM's wife for some scrim work. I think a likeness of Clint Eastwood's "A Man With No Name" would fit that knife very well:)

Received mine today and it too is completely devoid of any markings. Box end label is marked 0005BNSBP-B and dated 12/03/2009. It's got a very crisp and clean look to it. The story I'm going with is that these were overruns from a "sterile" order for an unnamed Spec Ops agency for covert use on foreign shores. Yeah, that's the ticket.

That's good John:p...I like it!

Badhammer, thanks for the reply, I like your story...my knife's box is numbered the same.

Still not sure what I'll do. Preston

Was looking at mine again this morning and noticed that the hollow grind isn't even on both sides and, though I haven't measured it, it seems to go farther back on the blade than my other Gen 5. Far enough back that in fact, I'm not sure there is room for the standard blade markings? Will put my calipers on it this evening and compare to my other one. Perhaps these were ground a little long and instead of being sent out they got shelved for a few years until this Web Special?

Just compared the bone Gen 5 against my 3128 Gen 5 (rosewood and 154CM) and the space available to stamp the blade is about the same so my theory above doesn't hold water.

You could have a great and highly lucrative e-Bay career ahead.

:D

It seems that people who buy a lot of web specials do end up getting a few interesting oddities.

I often end up saying that I wish I'd bought one of some knife that comes back with a singularity of some kind.

hee hee hee it was rummered back in the days of 'nam that the folks with
get out of jail free cards
that they had buck knives 110's and 120's that were ""sterile" as it is called now then jest unmarked
yes the ones with out markings you fellers got ..
defently not users.. unless you get two...
get a cheepie used one off the dock o the bay
to use the heck out of
keep the oddities..

I went ahead and ordered another:thumbup:, the charcaol handled one, but from the big A....dot com site.

I did see the same Gen 5, 0005BNSBP-B, on debay. BIN. It's photo showed it was marked as it should be. Have to confess I thought long and hard about pulling the trigger and having the two...but I don't want to go there:rolleyes:.

My wallet has gone into hiding and it took me a long time finding it last time I came over to this enabling site:D, I'm so weak. Preston
