What's a good throwing knife that can be used as a fixed-blade as well?

All of the throwing knives that I've seen are fixed blades. I would go for a custom made bowie style thrower if you wanted to do other things with it. A knife that is designed for throwing will not be quite as hard as a regular knife. You can not have it hard enough to hold a good edge and expect to throw it. You can get by with a knife designed and tempered to throw and will perform some tasks, but it will need to be sharpened a bit more often.

What else can I add...

If there is a knife that can do EVERYTHING, I don't know wich one it is.

That is why there are so many different knives with so many different blades.

John Bailey designed, Boker made Tan Kri. Its even advertised to be thje perfect knife because it can be used to throw and then with the handles it can be used as a fixed blade knife.

I threw my Swamp Rat Battle Rat all the time, with no damage. It threw pretty well, and stuck deeply. it also didn't void the warranty, as throwing will do for many knives.

I also throw my Busse's.

I guess it might be a better Idea to look for a good fixed blade that can be used as a thrower, instead of vice-versa.

The Glock knives are cheap and supposedly pretty tough, although I have no experience with them.

I don't know how well Beckers would hold up with throwing, but they are another option for not too much money.

Normally I find the knife I want (just about any knife store is good for browsing) and then use froogle to find the best price.

I got a nice spyderco knife from sierratradingpost for a third of the list price... it cost less than buying it on ebay. :D

There is a member "Ka-bar" or "Kabar" who favored the short Kabar and posted videos/pictures of him sticking and penetrating pine boards. I've thrown my short, but don't have anything really to compare with. The crossguard on the short is not very thick and will bend when stressed (although you can bend it back the same way).

I can throw most anything, but most knives that are designed for throwing seem to be made of softer steel, and thus won't hold an edge with purpose built cutting knives. So I guess I'd have to vote for my Cold Steel Bushman as my best all purpose knife.

glock knives can be used for throwing, as is also stated in the product description. I tossed mine around quite a bit and it held up remarkably well (my paul chen tactical tanto didn't by the way ... => had the tip snapped off) it does however not hold an edge very well, because it is made to endure very harsh usage.

anyway, the knife you choose should not be stainless, because stainless don't have the same uniform structure like carbon steels and are therefore more prone to breaking.

1095 Ka-Bars work well and are cheap - "back in the day" I and many other Marines have passed countless hours of downtime throwing knives. The only trouble with the ka-Bar is it's relatively thin tang. With repeated hard rotating throws, the handles tend to bend ...but the nice thing about relatively soft 1095 is it's tough and can be bent back. Ahh...memories. ;)

You can make yourself a fair beater knife that you can take out and chop with and throw till you tear it up. The hardness is low enough that they will bend before they break, but hard enough to hold an edge for a good while. One sharpening will last all day in the field.
