We Christen ships and have enjoyed Arthurian movies starring a sword named Excalibur.
Reading the Icelandic Sagas makes me tend to believe that an earlier era gave personal names to darned near every weapon they had!

I have a truck named DracOILa, and a rifle named Ripper, thats R.I.P. for R.oast I.n the P.ot.

My axe is named 'Bloodtooth' in Welsh. Gwaedannedd or Gwaedant.
If its not too personal what have ya'll named your toys?

Humor an olde farte...

I tend to name my computers: Phoenix, Ripper, Dark, Storm, and T2 are a few of my machines.

Mornin' Q.
Guess you & I are oddities, the last two big kids on the block. Hey, you can't grow old if you won't grow up, right?
I really thought this had the potential for a decent thread. Ah, well.. A bit of trivia since I'm feeling trivial...

The Icelandic Sagas are histories, not myth & fairy tale stuff. Wanna know something uber cool?
In the Fostbroedra Saga, King Olaf saw Thormod getting ready for battle. The King reproached him asking, "Why aren't you dressed for battle (armored) as other men do?"
Þormóðr replied that his axe would serve as both his shield and mail shirt!
A really neat historical reference to using an ax not only for offense but for defense as well!

Have a sharp day. I get to go play in more wind turbines, surrounded by snow, eagles, & elk. A truly awe-inspiring 'day at the office', and I get this EVERY day! lol

I have a tendency to call most my weapons ( Sweatheart ) when I use them. Figuring if I am good to them they will be good to me. My truck is Babe not sure why and I have a few names for my wife but better not go there......
ulfskeid: sounds like a nice place to work.............

I call my weapons by their proper names: VTAC, Glock, etc...
When I have problems, I call them names I can't say here...

I don't tend to name things. Although my Ford Excursion has come to be known as "Matilda" as in "Waltzing Matilda". It is our vacation vehicle. I have one rifle that my friends named "Black Death". It is a Ruger M77 in .300 win. mag. It doesn't miss and every animal that it has had in its' sights has died from it. I love that rifle.

I've always named everything, since my first VW Beetle named 'Esmerelda'. A real witch! There have been guns named after 'Teddy' Roosevelt & 'Sherman' after a gun club member who was always shooting off at the mouth.

Bors. My "R.i.p.per" is a .45-70 stainless Marlin Guide Gun with a Chuck Conners style mitten lever on it. A pard of mine has .300mag in both lengths. He likes his too Shooter.

I'm a Wind Turbine Technician. Fancy name for 'high altitude grease monkey'. Mostly lubrication at the wind farm, with a bit of trouble-shooting & electrical, hydraulic & mechanical parts replacement.
Lots of critters here. Elk, mule deer, antelope, badgers, coyotes and some kind of prairie chickeny thing I haven't truly ID'ed yet.
Its a growing industry & I wish I'd found this job decades ago!

Wind turbine technician that's pretty cool, I spent a good number of years as a Technical support Engineer with lasers. Fancy name for a desk technician LOL. My 45-70 is a Marlin CB. I drive a school buss now and work on my new home out in the country.

I love my GG, but should have gotten a CB!
Back to topic.
I think Hussy is getting me another hawk for xmas, already have a name waiting... Weirdly enough, most often if I choose a name in advance I end up changing it based on first appearance/touch/use.
My kids had names waiting too, dual selections. Although we knew the sex of each prior to birth, we chose two sets of names based on hair color/skin tone, based on our associations & 'feeling' of whether a names was 'light' or 'dark' complected.
