Even though I just started collecting knives...I dont think I would spend more then $150 bucks for one...Kinda cheap huh ?? What's the most you have paid or will pay for a decent knife ??

Well I used to say $100, but i just purchased a Terzuola for $1000. somebody please stop me before I buy again......................RR

The most that I have paid is $200 for a small custom fixed blade. However, I don't really set upper limits for myself because you never know what you'll run across (might get a hell of a deal on a Fisk bowie for $500, yeah, right). Generally, I don't worry about the price of a knife until it gets over $150. After that, it better be something special to me.

I have learned that it makes no sense to say what you won't pay. In the last three years, the amount that I'm willing to pay for a prime piece has gone up considerably. The main thing is to organize one's finances so that you can comfortably maintain your hobby.

The most I have ever paid was $850 for a knife. Now, I probably would spend half of that at most. And I don't do even that very often anymore (Being married hasn't helped!)

Maybe 250 bucks for an EDC, maybe 500 to 600 for a closet queen. I'm married, too, and that effects the toy money.

This week or next week? ;) My price ceiling keeps going up as my taste gets more sophisticated. At the moment I try to keep the price under $200. There are a lot of really nice custom F/B's out there for $150-200. Haven't made that jump to the custom folder level (yet).

I got married. The upper limit and the total yearly volume shrank by a factor of 5x first year, headed for 20x in 3rd year.

I spent $3k on a Broadwell subhilt custom in Norris Damascus and walrus ivory, made for me as an unmarried guy. It's a one of a kind and a gem. It'll be a while before I can buy a Michael Walker or Ron Lake.

Right now it is my $550 Mayo Large TNT. Dont think I will be going higher than that, need to get a new car.

Most I've ever spent is $525.
Probably won't be buying any knives under a $100, unless its because of a really good deal. I can't see myself spending more than a $1,000 on a single piece.

Most knives I see that are under $100 seem like toys.

It just keeps going up. Now, for some knives, I think $2000 is a fair price. Just two years ago I thought $150 for a Microtech was high ;). I prefer to carry a knife around $450 and I certainly don't mind carry scratches.

I spent about $800 on a bowie once, but that was the most so far. But, it's surprising how many $500-600 bowies keep showing up in my collection. Life is rough!:D

Depends on how much I like it. I'd want to like it a lot to spend more than $3k, but anything is possible...

edited to add:

I carry every knife I own, some more often than others. That's not likely to change for future purchases.

The most that I've spent so far is $345 on a Sebenza. I don't really know how much I would spend on any given knife. :)

Seems to me the marriage factor has a substantial impact on the volume and price range of acceptable purchaces.

Also married 20+ years the most I ever spent was $275 for a handemade Bud Nealy, right now acceptable for me,( so long as it comes out of the household budget), no more than $250. As my sharpening business grows, that amount will change substantially hopefully to include a custom folder. One thing will always keep me in the lower range is carryability,(is that a real word?) I can't see myself spending $1000 on a blade that will sit on display, I'm a user, I bought a pear handled William Henry, and I'm afraid to carry it in my pocket with anything else for fear of scratching,(to me thats like owning a Kawasaki Z1R Turbo, and only doing the speed limit, no fun)

The most I've spent to date is $330.

However, I am looking at a knife currently that is running $550.

I am not a true investment-type collector and I like knives that I can carry. I would be very uncomfortable carrying a knife that cost more than about $500.

I would be willing to pay a bit more to get an undervalued knife, but for reselling, not carrying.

The most I have paid to date is $600, and I am already looking at pieces above a grand. I am married, so I often I get to get these goods are now few and far between.

"What's the most you'll pay for a knife?" - Geez, that's like asking "How much sex is enough?"

Since my wife is computer literate and spends some free time at work cruising the web, I refuse to answer such an incriminating question.

PS: Hi Honey, buy any shoes today at lunch?

My name is Ed and I collect Emersons - so I guess the answer to the question is waaay to much.

But I do love them so!!

Regards,

Ed
