What's under the tan powdercoat?

I'm thinking about stripping one of my tan Rc-4s, and I'm curious what is under the powdercoat? Is it bare metal, or is the metal treated in some way? (For example, some handguns with a powdercoat are parkerized first to make the coating adhere better).

If it is bare metal under the powdercoat, is it deliberately rough upped so the coating will stick.

Bare metal. A shame to take off that pretty tan coating.

why strip a tan one,why dont you pick up a user on the exchange(when available) and strip a standard RC if you must do so.... IMO....LOL !

Two reasons I'm stripping a tan one instead of a black one:

1. If you'll recall I'm the one who has been asking for the green canvas micarta handles since RAT Cutlery announced its existence and new line. (See http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=519328). So the only way to get a stripped one with green handles was to strip one with the tan coating.

2. I bought two tan ones:D, just so I could strip one!

So yes it is a nice coating and I'll keep one coated, but I wanted one stripped with green handles and this was the only way to get it.

Post pictures when you're done.

I definitely will. So far, I have it stripped (the bare metal was very rough underneath, probably so that the powdercoat would adhere better) and have hand sanded it with 400 grit. Looks pretty good so far, but I'll probably work my way up to 1000grit. I'll try to post some pics of all the stages.
