Topic says it all, when was the switch made to BG42 and how can I tell without box or papers what the blade steel is?
Thanks
Eric

Outside of a dog, a Knife is man's best friend. Inside a dog it is very, very Dark.

We changed from ATS 34 to BG42 for Sebenza blades during 1996. As a rule of thumb, if you have a new shape Sebenza (i.e. with the scollops on the handle, leading into the area where the thumb lug rests when the knife is closed) it will probably have a BG42 blade.

It had been our intention to change to the new steel when we introduced that profile but the steel did not arrive from the manufacturer in time. There was a brief period where the new (or what was new then!) profile knives had ATS 34 blades. There is no way of telling from simply looking at the knife - that information was included on the guarantee card.

All of the original profile Sebenzas had ATS 34 blades expect for a very few where the blades have had to be replaced under warranty for one reason or another.

I hope this helps!

Anne
