Well, the Chesapeake Knife and Tool stores are quietly closing all around me, and that leaves little opportunity to "showroom" prior to buying anything. Does anyone out there know of any stores with decent knife selections in Richmond or further north?

Thanks,
Jim

Jim,

I have heard that there is a Gander Mountain down in Fredericksburg now. Also, if you're visiting Richmond, there's Green Top Sporting Goods, though their knife selection isn't the greatest, and they're kind of high in price. You might want to keep your eyes open for C & E gunshows in Richmond. They usually have several knife vendors with a large selection, and the prices usually rival those you find online.

I have heard that Knifecenter.com has a store location not too far from D.C., but you have to make an appointment to make a visit.

There is a Gander in F'burg, but I've not visited the store yet. As far as the Knifecenter goes, I know that they're in College Park, MD, but I don't think they've got a storefront. It would be great if they did!

Thanks for the comment!

New Graham, which I'd love to visit, is about 4 hours from where I live. Quite a drive to fondle the stock!

It's looking more like haunting gun shows, until Ted Merchant starts a Northern Virginia Knife Show.

Thanks!

Check out the local farmers markets and flea markets. Most vendors are going to have junk, probably not even recognizable name junk, but you might stumble upon some hole in the wall knife stores. I found a 550 BM Grip at one farmers market for about 30 bucks couple years ago, minty fresh.

Moving this to TGB&U.

The gander Mtn. store in Fredricksburg started out fairly strong. They had a good selection of knives although prices were a little high, but you could get a deal now and then. As of now, the knife selection is poor to say the least. it's like whoever is responsible for restocking and changing to different products just doesn't care. Also, you can forget getting any kind of good service if you go there. It's really kind of sad to see how poorly customer service has become there.:thumbdn:
