Where can I purchase CPM 440V? (small amounts)
I am considering making a few folding knives with it.
Is the steel very difficult to work with? Do you have any tips on working with it?

Welcome to BFC gull wing.

Can we assume you're a vintage Mercedes fan? :)

The "CPM" in CPM 440V stands for Crucible Particle Metallurgy. Their Website provides contact numbers for all the local service centers. You may want to also ask this question over on the ShopTalk forum. The veteran blade makers their can get more specific with regards to your workability questions. They may also point you in the direction of a different Crucible stainless steel such as CPM 420V (more wear resistant and a little tougher than 440V), or S30V (a little less wear resistant but far tougher than 440V). Good luck.

You might want to ask Sal Glesser of Spyderco how CPM440V is to work with. He probably has more experience with it than any other knife-maker on the planet. He might even be able to tell you where to find some. Try over in the Spyderco Forum in the Manufacturers Section.
