I want to choose between the 440, the 960 and the 690. I really like the slim profile of the 440, but I like the black bladed 690. Opinions please?

960, no question. that is just one of the most beautiful Benchies i've ever laid eyes on. i love the contrast between the G10 and aluminum (or steel, depending), and the blade shape is very elegant yet useful..

that'd be my pick.

The 960 is sexy , and with aD2 blade is a good cutter . It can probally do some tuff stuff , it's brother the 921 is pretty strong .

I have a 690 (satin PE) and really like it. I don't usually buy coated blades because i think they get ratty looking after you use them. They are cool looking when new, though! Any one of your picks would be a great knife, however. Enjoy!

I have one of the original 690's with the BC1 coating. If I'm not mistaken, this is a ceramic coating different from the teflon type of coating used in Benchmade's other blades. This thing doesn't scratch. And if it does, I can't tell where it has one.

The newer 690's use a slightly different coating. But if it's a ceramic coat, it's going to be pretty tough.

I like my 690 a lot. It's a nice, handy size. Not too big, not too small.

Hmm...the 440 is the definition gentleman's folder..
I've always loved the 960, but it seemed chunky....
The 690 is chunky too, but the lines seem to flow as a modern design..
Hard decisions...Thanks

Hmm...thought about it with VampyreWolf, the 690 screams knife. The 440 is pretty, but the 960 actually does work, though not sure about sheeple friendlyness. (I already have a PMillie, this is exclusively for going well with my friends (mostly girls, who aren't afraid, but just think the PMillie looks weaponish and that's not the impression I want to leave) and their parents)

I have always thought that the 690 was one of the best looking knives ever.-the Lum chinese being another one that springs to mind.

My 690 is the prettiest knife I own (until my 635 arives) but, the handle just doesn't fit me. I have average sized hands and it's just too small to be my EDC. Also, the handle retention is less than ideal due to it's smooth finish and ergo's. However, I do carry it in situations where my mini-afck would be shunned. Even sheeple can't get offended by something this pretty.

Gravitator will just freak out people. (looks sorta like a YoJimbo with the tail)
I'll get a 440 or 960..(and If i stop blowing money like this, I could get a real Elishewitz)

by the way i just ordered a 921 when faced with the same dilemma. . .it's worth a look.
I'm with Thollis... the 921 is my favorite "dressy" Benchmade. The usual photos don't show it well, but it's DAMN thin and sleek for a three-inch-blade knife. When folded, the overall shape is a metallic teardrop. Very sheeple-friendly, looks like a work of art clipped to your pocket.

I've got two, in fact, both limited editions: one with pewter-grey scales and a main blade made of D2 tool steel; and another with livid purple scales and black coated S30V blade. (I got the purple one by mistake, actually!) The grey one in particular is just so sweet that even though I bought it for the vault (1 of 50!), I end up carrying it. A lot.
