I have a large model 4. It kicks ass. I want to get some more Carson knives. Which is your favorite and why?

I have four Carsons and love each for a different reason.

My red bone medium model 4 (420V) was the very first custom knife made for me. Kit put a lot of extra (pleasant) surprises into that one, from file work on the spine and clip, to engraving on the inside of the backspacer.

My all damascus tanto model 16 "flipper" is my first "magazine" knife (Blade, May '99) and a unique piece received from Kit at my first Blade Show.

My stellite model 16 (all titanium construction, including screws) is just way cool, and it was something Kit told me about and offered to me a couple years back.

And finally, my Carson family prototype F4 (large, D2) was a gift from a maker who has become a good friend over the past few years.

Now how could you pick a favorite from that bunch? :)

The next one!

Seriously, I have a forged stellite fixed blade which was a collaboration between Kit and Steve Schwarzer, that is my favorite just because it's so unique. It's also very useable, with a 5.5" drop point, single guard and sculpted carbon fiber scales. Cliff did a review of it on his website.

My large M4 in 420V is my favorite day-hiker.

I also have a small "airweight" M4 in stellite/carbon fiber (no liners or bolsters) on order, as well as a coping blade U2 in a drop-edge format with single quillion and Kit's special "reverse" serrations.

(Hey, Blues--welcome back. :))

And in less than two short years I'll be able to agree with you with first-hand experience :)

My ultimate KC knife would be a frame lock model 16 with a flipper and 420V blade. I think Dexter Ewing has one.

But I am really happy with my large F4 neck knife in D-2. It is a superb design, and comes with a great cutting edge. A lot of cutting power in a very small and light package. It is my current favorite knife, haven't been able to put it down or pick anything else up since I got it.

My Talonite M18. The finest liner lock I own, period. And best of all, its a great USER, which is the kinda knife I like best.

That is an M16 A1 in damascus with mammoth ivory handles and a slight recurve to the blade. Only about another year to go.

Large M4

Just got mine back from the man himself who "fixed" it up from standard tactical to something special.

Redwood burl scales, red liners, jeweled interior, hand rubbed finish on the blade and bolsters.

He's got a nice bottle of "juice" on its way to him today for the bang up job he did.

My order number comes up next summer for my next Carson, still can't decide what to get. But the M4 kicks ass!

I read in Steven Dick's book, "The Working Folding Knife" That Kit had discontinued the medium M4. The one with the 3.5in blade.

Is this still the case? That would be the one that I would like to own.

I've only gotten to handle one at the Blade Show, Senator's knife it was, beauty!

But I've seen pics of some of his knives and the Sheepsfoot folder looks mighty tempting!

Steven Dick's book is a couple years old.

I bought a medium Model 4 in D2 from Kit a year ago at the New Orleans Guild Show.

I don't have a Kit Carson knife, but I'm with Gary on this one-that Model 21 looks SWEET! :)

Any Carson knife that is made in Taiwan! They are MUCH better than anything he's ever made himself. Yeah, yeah, I know you'll argue, but in fact, I've actually sold a couple of my Carson customs just to purchase a bunch of the Taiwan copies! They're real workhorses, unlike the Carson originals. I only wish Kit could make a linerlock as well!

Oh yeah, as far as the customs go, put me down for the model #21. If you want to see a REAL sheepsfoot or Wharncliffe blade, check one of these out!

Okay Kit and Elliott, ;)

Definitely my medium Model 4GT--that's Grooved Titanium handles and Stellite blade. Perfect size, weight, and well...just perfect in general. :)

I'm lucky enough to have 3 Carsons and my favourite by a slight margin would be the medium drop point M4. Not a big mystery why we love our Carsons though - they all balance perfectly in the hand, locks up like a dream and are just a joy to use ;)

Wow, what a tough question.

I have a Model 4, Model 16A1, BAK, and a small F4. I love them all but I'd have to say right now the BAK is the one getting the most use. It's a big honkin' folder with a 5" spearpoint blade. Very lightweight handle with double ti liners and carbon fiber scales. It's an impressive looking piece to boot.

I have several of his pieces. Kinda stuck on his Model 4's. Prefer the "clip point" style blade. :D Have yet to handle one with a tanto blade.

Got to handle one of his Auto's in June.

It was the finest auto that has crossed my path. You could close your eyes, work the mechanism and know that Kit made it.

He does not make them any more, but if you see on one the market buy it or email me so I can before GigOne gets his hands on it :D.
