Dave, I've seen both knives in your photos in that box. Also, I've seen black color printed papers in with the 3 line inverted stamped 401 . Yours has a red booklet, I've seen that one and a black printed booklet.
The box looked the same for both knives it was only the printed materials that were different. I'm sure that box is correct for an early Kalinga (71-72). Also, that early paperwork didn't have a date as I've looked at several and none have those numbers we know to look for on the last page. The next box that came along for that model did not have the metal hinges and front locking hasp the rest looked the same (late 70's perhaps 78-79). If you read the red booklet it should have a story about a native tribe that used that style of knife. Eluding to where the name originated from.
Those are rare knives I can still run across them and with the sheath you show. But the box and papers, I've seen two in the last 10yrs. that I recall and neither one the owners were willing to part from them. Even though I offered them enough money to make them smile they still shook there head, no.Thanks for showing them. DM
