Which Spydercos do you wish they would bring back?

Maybe it is just the fact that you always want what you can't have but it seems that some of the best Spydercos are the discontiued one. Here are some of my favorites that I wish were still in production and a few that I never got a chance to buy and now wish the prices were not so high due to collector demand.

1. Large Calypso. I had a PE one that I let go and wish I had it back. Such a handy knife and smooth. Miss you.

2. Massad Ayoob. Just got one and I love it. Can't believe it is gone.

3. Centofante II. Only complaint was it was uncomfortable in the pocket due to sharp corners on the G-10. Smooth it out a bit and it would have been an even better knife.

4. Bob Lum Chinese. Never got one and now the prices keep going up. Would love a PE one with tianium handles.

So which ones do you guys miss the most?

I personally have only started my Spyderco collection as of this year, so there are of course a fair number of models which would like to see back in production......
However, if all the models which people want were brought back, it would have made all the time in which I and everybody else spent searching for those rare models a waste, in that everyone would then own one, and they would no longer be rare, nor highly desirable, valuable, and what have you.

Of course it would be nice if the prices of such models were not so high, but then everyone would own one, and the whole fun of collecting would be limited somewhat. However, if they brought back various models, and made specific modifications to distinguish them from the previous versions, than that would be perfect!!.......Just as I hope the Spyderhawk will be, in PE and G10, and even CF.

So to just bring back previous models simply because you haven't had the opportunity to acquire them as of yet, would not be the best thing for the overall collectability of Spyderco's, however by bringing back variations is a good thing, and that is what "Sprint Runs" are for. So I personally want to see all of my favourite knives, brought back and modified, and who wouldn't, but in the meantime I still have to search for and save up for those elusive previous/limited models.

Still my "Dream" list at this point in time would be;

- Spyderhawk
- Lum Tanto Folder
- Civilian
- Matriarch
- JD Smith
- Jess Horn
- and I already miss the Dodo (still need), Karambit (need more), and Lil' Temp (need TP)

I'm going to play devil's advocate on this one. Much as I love a lot of the discontinued models, there is not one of them that I would want to see brought back. There are just too many exciting new designs coming out of the fertile minds of Sal, Eric, and the custom makers they collaborate with.

Any of the knives mentioned so far can be found and purchased by someone who truly wants one. Some are easy to find, some take a bit of diligence to locate, but all can be found. Bringing any of them back would just reduce the resources available to produce new designs.

I like the Deacon quite a bit. He seems to be a pretty nice guy with a vast body of knowledge concerning everything Spyderco. He always answers even the most naive of questions with care and teaches a bit more than you knew before. He makes a valid point but really seems a bit grumpy as of late. The initial thread maker's question pretty much boils down to "which ones do you guys miss the most?". I see no reason to crush the thread with logic and facts. ;)

I like the large Calypso as well...seems to have a lot of potential especially with the modern steels.

Calypsos in micarta.
Standard in S30V.

Another vote for a full size micarta calypso. Although a re-run as a wharnie would be even more attractive.

Wow! That would be cool. I am a sucker for Wahrncliff blades for some reason. I would like to see the original blade as an option as well however.

The thing is, I am a user first and a collector second. I want to use all my knives so if I re-bought a large Micarta Calypso, it would probably cost me $130 and would be hard to replace. I would not be comfortable carrying a knife that I could not get a replacement for. I want Spyderco to re-introduce some models so I can use them without guilt.

The Black Micarta Calypso Jr. would be my choice. Maybe in a different color Micarta and with VG-10 would be neat. I may have to get one of the Kopa's as they seem a near match now that I think of it. :D

Hi Guys
Police G10 with VG10 blade, flat ground. Perhaps in colours other than black.
Phil

Carbon Fiber Dragonfly every day of the week and twice on sundays. G10 flat ground police would be nice also. Add me to the full size Calypso list. And as long as I'm dreaming: a full size calypso in carbon fiber.

I'd love to see a remake of the Rookie! It was my very first spyderco and I still love it's size!!!!!

Large Centofante PE, preferably with large hole, S30V or 440V with zytel or the D'Allara handle.

Spyderhawk - gotta love a big hawkbill, H1 would be great or VG10
Lum Chinese - titanium handles this time, please, or at least type III HA coated
Starmate - can't believe nobody has mentionede this one yet.

Starmate and Mini-Starmate are in the works.
My vote goes for a G-10 Police, dual nested, sceletonized liners, full flat VG-10 blade, dent and a 4-way-clip.

Blackhawk

I don't want them for collector's purposes, but to use them-- great size and designs.

I'm not willing to pay more than the knife is actually worth just to have one in hand; the above poster was right about their are many great designs coming out now, so something else will serve the same purpose, just not as well.
