Which Surefire light?

Okay, I'm tired of my wimpy little Mag-Lite and have decided on a Surefire. I'm looking for something compact (it should easily fit in my pocket). Does anyone have any size comparisons or specs? I couldn't seem to find any of the dimensions on the website so it's kinda hard to tell how small they actually are.

Also I'm looking to spend max $80. I couldn't justify spending anymore on a flashlight... Does anyone know any good sources on the web for them?

So what do you guys suggest?

There are dimensions on the COMPARISON CHART at www.surefire.com.

I recently got an M2. I don't have a Mini Maglite, but I've handled a few. I think the 2-Cell SureFires all are about as long as a Mini Maglite, but body's are wider and the bezels are a lot wider. The executive models shouldn't be that much fatter than a Mini Maglite, though.

$80 should get you an E2E somewhere. I just got an NIB M2 on eBay for less than $100 delivered to my door

Well shoot! My ink to the comparison chart doesn't work right. Just click on "High Performance Personal Lights" and then click the "Comparison Chart" button. There are dimensions on the chart.

You might also want to consider the new Aviator model that's coming out. 3 LEDs plus a 60 luman halogen lamp and voltage regulation (but you probably won't be able to get one for $80 ;) )

I have an E2 that I carry everywhere. E2 or E2e should suit your needs perfectly. If you keep an eye on the exchange forums you might to find a good deal--that's where I got mine.

i have a Z2,Z3, and M3, and they all rock for sure. much better than a mag light. of course the M3 is better than the other 2, but not by THAT much, is heavier/bigger/and a little brighter, but the Z mods are good lights, i carry my Z3 quite a bit as it is lighter/ easier to carry

if i was gonna get one in the $80 range i would look at the centurion, the C2, they are a little higher, but not much. and the $7 hard finish is worth every penny imho.

when i got my Z3 was really wanting a HA C3, but couldnt find one and got such a deal on my Z3 ($70 shipped from a fellow forumite in LNIB shape, so keep an eye out on the for sale section of the forum, lotsa deals but surefires go FAST)) i couldnt resist. then, from the same member i got a good deal on the M3($160 shipped LNIB) but right now have a EKI/surefire combo on oreder from TAD, so i will finally get my centurion.

but i like the C series better than the E series myself, would get the Z if not the C

get yourself a E2,i have one in gun metal gray and it's perfect.small enought to carry in the pocket, clip is great and it's bright as can be.can't go wrong with this one.

E2e is great, no doubt, have one, BUT also have a smaller more compact E1 that has a longer battery life, less output but WAY more than any mini-mag, I use it going out to the shed at night, no lights outside and man that little light really throws a strong beam!

So either one, but for me, the longer lasting deal works best for me, I have the E2e on my side pocket and the E1 in my back pocket when I go outside...

You really can hardly go wrong! ;)

The Surefire sure has the brightest beam, but if I only had one light in that form factor, I think it would be the new Inova X5T. Waaaayyy more battery life and the bulb will never fail (even if one does, there's four more!).

That said, the Surefire is certainly a better pocket spot light. With them both sharing the same batteries, I think a matched pair of Surefire E2 and a Inova X5T would be the perfect combination (with a surefire spares carrier full of fresh batteries and a spare Surefire bulb). You'd have light for any situation.

In my opinion, getting the E2e and the X5T will be a waste and have you carrying too much. If you are tempted to get both (or a bulb flashlight and an LED flashlight), I strongly urge you not to buy either for now and save up for the SureFire A2.

Not only will the A2 provide whiter light then the E2e, it will maintain it's whiteness for the whole length of the runtime without dimming. Also, the A2 features three LEDs within the same reflector as the main bulb for when the brilliant intensity of the main beam is not required. Why carry two flashlights when the A2 can easily do the job of both?

arrhhh, don't do it. SFs are addictive. PK coats them with cocaine powder or sth.

today you might fork out the $80, but by year's end you'd hv spent another $800 :D
they're big boys' legos....

seriouly, when you hold a SF in your hand, you can't stop admiring the kind of pioneering spirit they show that makes life worthwhile.
in short, SFs are emotional products. (darn, emotional flashlights? the ladies will never understand THAT)

very few manufacturers can achieve that. Black Diamond being one, and Strider as well.

PS. forgot to mention, be prepared to spend another $800 on batteries too;)

cheers~

PS2. get the E2e-HA. small and full of options.

I got mine about 3 weeks ago from Phil at 2theHilt.com, $76.50. It's the first SF I've owned; been a Mag-Lite guy for 30+ years and I'll never look back! The HA finish seems tough as nails. I carried my SF in the same pocket as my keys for the first week and can't find a scratch on it! Quite an impressive instrument!!

E2 of some sort (I have an E2-HA already, and now a E2e-SG coming via UPS this week).

I like my E1-HA a lot, but if I could only have one Surefire it would be an E2 variant.

If you want longer runtime, get one of the new NM02 25 lumen bulbs.

Well now you guys have gone and done it...
Tonight my wife heard a disturbing noise in the field across our road
I took my E2e HA out and swept the field didn't see anything, went in the house and grabbed my 9P and what a stronger longer beam of light that threw! Now I want something even BRIGHTER more powerful!

What do I need now? That would beat out my old SureFire 9P?

Thanks I think,
G2

ps with the 9P I did spot a set of eyes WAY up in the field that the E2e didn't reach...Deer we think, although we have seen a panther come down the mountain and across our yard a few months ago so we are a bit wary!

Thanks for all the suggestions.

However, I have one more question for you guys. Just how bright is 60 lumens? All the other lights I've looked at measure the brightness in a different way so it's hard to compare. On the Mag-Lite site they measured brightness in candlepower at 5 ft, so it's hard to compare that with 60 lumens. Does anyone have a comparison on how bright the SF 60 lumen light is compared to other lights?

Gary W. Graley,

I suggest you get a KT2 (from your friendly SureFire Dealer) or a SRTH & N2 lamp (from friendly LSP)
These TurboHeads will give your 9P more punch for longer range illumination.

Once you have a TurboHead, it is simple to upgrade to a "12PM" sized SureFire (with an A19 & MN61 lamp)

It certainly sounds as if you are looking for a TurboHeaded SureFire.

One more suggestion. If runtime is a concern the E2e has a lower power lamp available, the MN02. It puts the light output at around half the regular lamp assembly, and the runtime more than doubles. It still puts out much more light than the E1. You might check surefire's discussion board for more details.
You could get a regular e2 and the mn02 for about your high price range.

I'm sorry, I should read ALL posts before posting. I see this was already suggested by another forum member.

I can't say in lumens how many each Mag is but I have many of them on my site all metered the same way and recorded. Most likely you will have at least one of the lights to compare relative brightness to. If I remember correctly the 6D Mag was 40 lumens? In any case you can check my site for more info. And just for the record I am not paid by any flashlight manufacture.

If you gentlebeings haven't checked out Brock's site it is a must see for flashlight/LED information!
Stay Safe,
Clyde
