Hi members,

Thanks in advance;)

I believe they are Rosewood. Posting this in the Spyderco section would probably get a positive answer.

Pretty rare piece this 1070, really never had a name that I can recall. It was a non-cataloged knife that was brought in for a year or two. As m98 said, I believe they are rosewood scales. Wish I had more info for you.

Hope that helps.

It was my understanding that it was originally produced for another market outside the USA, and since it was never in a catalog it is hard to say what the wood is. A lot of Sandalwood was used through the years as well as Rosewood. A nice knife and as Thomas said , Rare. It was originally sold with leather sheath also marked 1070. Also mine has model 1070 DCW on box, one recently closed on Ebay, it was advertised as Brown Micarta handles and had model 1070 DGM on box, here is a link if you want to look at it. http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-KERSHAW...ryZ43335QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Yea, I don't have anything to confirm that is was Rosewood, but visually it looked the part, at least to my eyes.

Now the one image in this thread compared to the one from the auction, makes it look like there were a couple of different handle materials. Sorry, as I wish I could confidently confirm.

Maybe that is the difference in the letters in the model # W -wood and M - micarta, just guessing although I don't recall Kershaw using Micarta.

What kind of wood aside, it is a very nice looking knife.
I like the rear lockback and figergrips.
