i have a Buck Strider tarani that i want to have recurved to eliminate the serrated portion of the blade. does anyone know someone who might be interested in doing this? thanks

i can't recommend you anyone i know to do that, but i can tell you that's is something you can do yourself. try some coarse stones and lots of elbow grease if you feel up to a challenge. it can be done.

i'm sure others will chime in soon enough though to redirect you to some custom makers instead ;)

Hello, shoot Ken Heafner an e-mail @ heafnerknives@hotmail.com
He puts a wicked edge on his custom fixed blades and I'm sure he could re-profile the edge and get the Tarani hair poppin sharp for a reasonable price. Let me know if You need any more info, BTW- He's a real solid guy todeal with.

Hope this helps.

Have a good one!

I don't know how willing custom makers would be to do some work on a knife they didn't make as most are busy making knives. I read about someone on the forums who at least used to do that sort of thing, Bandito I believe.

If you have any kind of sharpening system and some coarse diamond stones it wouldn't be that hard to do it yourself though. It would take a bit of time but it would get done without to much problem. If that is to slow you can also buy a cheap belt grinder from Harbor Freight and do it yourself with that. If you do it yourself you will spend probably about the same amount of money, but still have the tools for future use.

Is it really possible to make a serrated blade into a straight edge without grinding off a tremendous amount of steel?

Probably not without grinding the whole knife, but he said he wanted to grind out the serrations to create a recurve, meaning the edge wouldn't be straight, it would be curved inward, recurved. :)

Its no Problem to remove them. I can't stand serrations. As long as the blade dosen't loose its temper you will improve your cutting.

steven, that would be great if you could do it, i havent had much luck finding someone willing to. email me your info and price and we can work it out. thanks

If it were me, I would take him up on it! It would be cool to have for many reasons, he is kind of a legend.

Me, I am just a hobbyist from SoCal. Try Kim first, and if it doesn't work out, post I again, and I'll get you squared away.
