Just wanting to know who out there has or collects Mel's knives. I have one of his Autos, and after speaking with Mel, found out that it may be a Prototype he made for his AKA series of knives. Once I send him a picture of it, I will know more. I will try to have a picture of the knife in the near future to post or link here on the forums. (no scanner or Digital camera)

Thanks,
Brian

I have some of his knives and am always on the lookout for others of his in the style the appeals to me. My favorite is the button lock. Wish he made more of them.

I have some of his work in my collection and agree with Tom; his button lock is one of if not the most well made folding knives I have ever handled. The action on those can be described as silk against silk without any exageration at all. I had heard about them, but never understood until I picked one up - quickest handmade knife purchase I ever made and have even taken longer to decide on a factory knife or two.

I have been collecting Mel Pardues since the early 70's and my favorites are his button locks.Had 3 of them that were stolen in a burglary in April.MOP and just like silk.
Is still one of my favorite makers. His son is a good up and comer also.

nifrand,
If you feel like it email me with a list of what was taken and at least I can keep my eyes peeled for them. - Gus

Just purchased my first Mel Pardue.

It's a new 3" liner lock. Damascus blade, stainless bolsters with a blue bone handle.

I think the damascus is Devon Thomas?

I paid $350 for it and some other dealers at the show said that fair value is $400.

Does anyone want to speculate who is a Pardue collector at the value? Sorry, no way to send a pic, but like I mentioned it is new.

Thanx ACK

Not that I am any where close to being a "Pardue" expert and it is hard to venture a decent guess based upon experience without some type of picture, but in general one of Mel's knives (and yes he does use quite a bit of Devin's damascus on some of his work) with damascus for 350.00 sounds like a very good deal to me. Describe the handle a little more could it be fossilized mastadon or is it really blue bone.

Patrick Ma of Tripple Aught Design and David Hodge of Miami Knives seem to have a few Pardues in stock a lot of the time. Jay at AZCK, and Larry (Knife Art) carry them too. The prices from these guys should provide you an accurate value if your knife looks anything like ones they might have. Mel makes knives that run the gammut from utility to knives with unique mechanisims to art folders.
