I have the same thread on swamprat.com forums, here it is for those who don't venture on that side of the web.

What type of occupations are Rat owners?
Do you use your Rat at work?
What the primary use for your Rat?

Me:

College Student
use it for hunting / fishing

I use my Battle Rat all the time, it and my Howling Rat are my primary users.

Generally I use it for common cutting and chopping tasks, bushes, briars, a little digging and splitting thrown in there. :D:D

I don't use it to anywhere near its full potential, I'm sure it is getting anxious to get back out and do some real work. Hopefully soon, I'll have a chance to show it some more "love" ;):D:D

I can't think of any reason I would ever use my CT on my servers, but you never know.

I carry my new CT on all my excursions to Broken Bow, the in-laws property and anytime I am out in the "wild" be it camping or hunting or fishing.

If I ever have to use it on a server/computer it would be like the jaws of life ripping open an automobile. An easy task for sure:) ;)

Allrightey!! Who wants to be the first to own a sheath cut out entirely by a CT!!! :p I can guarantee it would be an original!
I attacked a four inch dead hardwood branch on a tree outside, it took freakin forever!!!! But it did eventually fall! And no blisters, my arm was like a noodle though :o
I am serious about that sheath! One of a kind!!

Current 9-5 Job is GM to an offshore oil & gas company. Love it, yep, it's great...could not live without it, yep ~ fantastic job...hmmm...Eric get me outa here man!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !

Home business that concerns anything computers, websites, networking, project management - anything I.T really. I have square eyes!

I use my HR to open boxes, comp monitors etc etc. Can not really wear the HR or any other rat for that matter around the 9-5 job. But, when the folder is released - that will be another story!

The CT and HR always accompany me on hikes, fishing trips which lately is few and far between...we have a kyak trip organised before xmas (fingers crossed) and a mountain bike trip organised for after xmas....sure do hope I can get my kydex soon. leather dont like water too much...

;)

What, you dont have the folder yet?? ;) Jeez where you been??:p Out swingin that sword around too much eh?

I am an EMT and currently only use a folder at work, but I do have two rats. I would love to replace my current work folder with a busse or swampy folder. I am going to give my Active Duty a try, once I get it for Christmas. I wish more people would respond. I personally have always wondered what some of these fellows do for a living that they can afford so many pricey knives. If it wasn't for wife aka momma moneybags I would probably carry a :barf: wal mart special blade:barf: I hope do be going back to school in the next year to year in a half. It will stop my knife buying, for a while, but once out of Nursing school I'll get quite the pay increase. I'm so poor I can't pay attention:rolleyes: Ha! Havent used that one in a while. Long, stupid posts like this is what happens when your up late and goofy on cold pills:o

I'm a CADD Tech by trade and a flyfisherman by nature. Like many others here I can't carry fixed blades at the office, though I do carry a pair of Benchmade folders and a small Leatherman tool everyday without fail. A folding Rat would be nice for the office... ERIC!

Most of my fixed blade uses involve hiking through underbrush to find good fishing spots. While I had to give up hunting a few years ago I still get a chance to skin and butcher whitetails from time to time. Cleaning a trout or striper every now and then also calls for a good fixed blade, I hate trying to clean that kind of gunk out of folders! :barf:

alrighty, I will jump in... software sales in silicon valley... though right now that just consists of making phone calls and getting hung up on. Otherwise I would have all the Rats by now! I am currently fueling my habit by selling and trading off other knives I have. I don't carry my CT to work, I would scare the sheeple. I do plan on heading into some cold backcountry with it soon.

other hobbies: mountain climbing, rock climbing, photography, backpacking into remote areas (yeah, like those exist in CA), snowmobiling, skiing, wake boarding... getting the idea?

although I must admit I have been spending all my time at home lately... world's best fiancee there.

Looks like it's my turn. My name is Chad W. and I'm a . . . oh, wrong meeting, sorry :footinmou

Marketing director for a midwestern ad agency. No, I don't carry my CT at work, but I do use it around the house and as my tornado shelter knife. When you live in the middle of Tornado Alley, ya gotta think of these things.

Been gone for a little while training troops, but here goes:

US Army Military Police instructor (19 years service so far).

Keep the Camp Tramp and Howling rat handy, but use the Ratchet the most. Clearing brush, trimming out fighting positions and setting up booby traps for training the troops. Beats the coating off, but works well. The staples that are included in the booby traps are pretty hard stuff. Got to say the Ratchet does the job pretty well.

Also get to pass the word to those that Swamp Rat targets in the first place (GI's). For those that are into knives, they are pretty darn impressed. Too bad the last batch of troops were deploying overseas in short order.

Might have gotten a few orders from folks anyway. Anything ship to Ft Dix lately? Might have another contacting you guys for a rush order either to the Chicago area or to Ft Dix.

Great stuff and can't brag enough!

Ed

Edward,
We appreciate your service and also appreciate you passing along the word on the Rat's to your fellow servicemen.

Just a note, if you find someone that needs a knife ASAP because they are about to be deployed have them contact me direct at swampratinfo@insightbb.com We'll do our best to get them fixed up.

Thanks again

:D:D

Ed,
I will be leaving for basic tr. @ Ft. Leonard Wood on Jan. 3rd...MP will be my AIT, and after that 3 weeks of airborne school.

Too bad the last batch of troops were deploying overseas in short order.

What do you mean by taht? I really REALLY want to go overseas, anywhere really, preferably Germany...but if I had a chioce, I would much rather go to a non-peacetime base like in Kuwait...I understand it's boring with nothing to do but it's worth it to me (besides, I can carry a fixed blade over there:p). Were guys shipping directly to the middle east area?

Eventually I want to go to Military Working Dog school...I love dogs and can basically read their minds once I get to know them and I think I would be a most excellent handler.:)...anything more you might want to add concerning anything I said, go ahead.

Warthog

Warthog,

Sorry it took so long to reply, but this weekend we started a new class.

As to the last class leaving too soon, I just meant that some of them might not have had time to order and receive any really good knives. The PX carries some, but nothing that I'd rely on for my life. Good nonetheless, but not Busse/Swamp Rat good.

As for getting overseas. I think that you might have a good chance of that considering what's going on right now. Just be patient, your time will come.

As for Military Working Dogs, once you get to your first duty site, check and keep checking. Don't stop checking. There might or might not be a slot open where you are at. Next best thing is to ask for the school as part of your PCS (Permanent Change of Station), you are likely to get it as part of your first re-enlistment. it's not easy to get, so be patient.

Bide your time and be tenacious about it.

Good luck,
Ed

Having finished the Cuba thing I got a Camp Tramp. Now that I'm "undeployed" I can get back to hacking up the lower 40 (my back yard), hunting, Reserve weekends, etc. Which is where the Tramp will go. Plus the 4 day extension on MO deer season this weekend.

In the meantime I bid commercial hardware to contractors. No, wally world doesn't sell this stuff. Camp Tramps are like mortise locks on Mall back doors. Heavy Duty. About the same price, too.

To the Mp instructor in Huntsville: Is that a cert course? I need BNCOC and couldn't pick it up in Benning. I don't mind Ashland but right now ANY seat looks good.

Yep, it's a certified course. Have your PA get into ATRRS and check on the schools. There are several across the country to choose from.

BNCOC Phase I is done by the NG, and the MOS specific Phase II is done by the Reserve training BN's. You can take the course anywhere as long as the unit pays for it.

Region D (Kentucky/Tennessee/Alabama/Missippi) will likely be holding one in AUgust at Ft McClellan.

Check ATRRS now for the best class in Phase II as long as you've completed Phase I and have a 1059 to prove it. You also know to be prepared for a PT test as soon as you get there, yes?

Ed

BTW, I believe a few of your relief just graduated from my class at Ft Dix.
