I just bought a Diamond wood 110 with 154cm steel, I'm sure its some sort of limited run or at least it was advertised as one. With a limited run and up-graded steel why would Buck pair this knife with a nylon sheath:( . It seems as though they should have given this knife a respectable sheath( Leather)... I don't buy many 110s but really liked this one dispite the crappy sheath.

Well, they'll send you a $200.00 "Custom" 110 with a nylon sheath unless you pony up a few extra dollars for a leather sheath.

Does that make sense?

Buck is a company with no paucity of quirky, illogical and idiosyncratic behaviors and attitudes......and they show NO sign of changing.

That's what makes it fun......and creates collectibles.

;)

That 110 was a build out. Sold on their web specials page for $35.00 IIRC. That knife alone is well worth the $35.00, and I love the sheath for EDC! :D

Wow 35$ I paid $60 each plus tax and shipping. (To Canada!!!) I love leather and knives. The nylon sheath is kind of nice in a tactical Buck 110 style knife, which this knife becomes in my shop its thinner, it weighs less than half a leather, and it doesn't come with a Made in Mexico sticker in it. Does that mean its made in the USA?

No, it's made in China.

There's a second tag cunningly hidden under the first.

Another quirky Buck thing. Dishonest, no. Tricky, yes.

:)

Maybe Buck just assumed that you would want to get it custom sheathed anyway:rolleyes:.

Admittedly, nylon is an odd choice for that knife, but I have heard a lot of people harp on Buck's nylon sheaths yet I've never seen anyone make a post about a nylon sheath failure for fixed blades or folders, and I've seen people wear one every day for years and they keep on going. Are we being too picky sometimes?

When I think of a Buck knife, the last thing I imagine is a cheep nylon sheath thats made in China. So if thats being picky, Hell yes I'm picky and nylon sucks. I don't care if it works well with your EDC or not. If your selling an American made knife, pair it with an American made sheath. This is just another examle of people lowering there standards, because Buck is being tight...NYLON SUCKS

I think in a smart business plan, they(Buck)have had to tightenup all around in order to stay competitive and remain in the U.S.A.I would take a cheap sheath anyday if it meant i can stil buyn the knives i love, its better than Buck packing up production and sending it all overseas.I use custom sheaths made of leather for the most part.

I do have to say that I like and use the Cordura sheaths and I love and RARELY use the leather sheaths.

Not sure what other people do, but I suspect many do the same.

:)

If the knife came with a condura sheath it would be better but it doesnt, this sheath is a waist of money.

I can appreciate smart business as well, But I would rather pay a bit more up front and get a respectable sheath for this great knife. I wont use these sheaths, because they are garbage. I will spend the money needed to get a good leather sheath.

Well, snide comments about Buck aside... Limited edition projects that are ordered by a dealer are paired with the sheath that the dealer picks. Dealer wants nylon, thats what the project comes with.
With some build outs, nylon is chosen to keep the price down.

Oh, I see.

You're talking about the really flimsy nylon pouch thing.

Yeah, they're crap. I didn't even know Buck had anything to do with those.

"this sheath is a waist of money"
And reading ALL your posts was a waste of my time. Did you get my point?

Mick57, That comment was was a waste of your time. If I express discontent with a product, I'm curious how that equates to a personnel atack on you. Comments like that are what cause threads to morph into a pissing contest. If you dont like what I have to say, dont say anything. No one is holding a gun to your head. To follow up Joes comment with your Sinde comment is bad form. Stand on your own two feet.

OH OK we are talking about those flimsy nylon sheaths, those are junk,I lost my very first buck 110 i bought in a clamshell package ,it came with the mini buck lock and a nylon sheath for the 110,the stitching came unsewed on the seam ,and i guess the knife came out of it without me noticing. The nice cordura sheaths are built well compared to those nylon jobs!
