Ive only been on this forum for five months..but I can't help but to notice how many people openly dislike SOG. I like knives from almost all the major knife manufacturers...It would be hard for me to pick a favorite..I think that they all have great knives and some that are just marginal....
but for so many people to dislike one manufacturer theirs got to be a reason. whats the reason....why do you hate SOG.:barf:

From what I've seen, SOG has an increasing amount of quality control issues (especially regarding the fusion series) and is lagging behind its competition. SOG doesn't offer a wide variety of cutting-edge steels (pun unintended) and is drawing on other companies' designs for some of its folders.

With the knife world so competitive now, there is little reason to stick with a company that doesn't please you.

The better question might be, why should someone like SOG lately?

Before any of the recent hooplah, I personally dislike them for their poor quality and a high price tag. My trident had blade play, a near useless cord cutter, and aus8 that wouldn't hold an edge for long. Had a seal pup chip like mad with light batoning. Never had an arc lock that didn't have play. Now these are all end user problems, not even anything more political. Many other have had similar issues with them.

a lot of people are of the opinion that many of SOGs designs are just copies of other manufacturers designs.

That's the most recent reason. The earlier reason(s) for me were the cost to value ratio, and the very blocky, chunky nature of most of their folders.

$80 for a rectangular knife with zytel scales and AUS8 steel isn't much of a bargain. You can buy a G-10 & 154CM made in USA Spyderco Manix 2 for that kind of dough.

It's not really hate for me, just better choices.

My dislike has always come from the fact that I believe that SOG knives are generally overpriced. Way overpriced sometimes.

For me, I don't know if I dislike SOG as much as I prefer offerings of other companies.

I have nothing against SOG, it just seems that I can get a lot more knife for my money with several other manufacturers in terms of materials and build quality. When I think about browsing the web for future purchases, SOG just usually doesn't come to my mind.

SOG makes some knives I think are really cool (the Fatcat, the Vulcan) but are not worth the price to me on my budget.

I have owned 2 SOG Flash 2's and they were OK knives. The assisted opening action was lightning quick and they were lightweight. I was not impressed with the blade's edge-holding ability, which was rather poor. There was a lot of blade play with the lockup on both knives. I ended up selling them, and got a good price for each, which shows that there are still some SOG fans out there.

I find a lot of their designs too 'tacticool' and just gaudy in general. They're not pleasing to my eye.

With that being said, I ordered a Flash 1 so I don't completely dislike all their knives

Agreed. I have a Recondo X-42 around here someplace... it looked interesting on the web, but fell flat in person. :(

I have a Flash II that works fine, with no blade play. It feels designed for very light use, though - say, opening envelopes - so I prefer my ZT0200 these days :D

I dislike SOG because...

1) they always use cheap steels like AUS-8
2)my SOGs have always had bladeplay
3)I hate the fact that they're now trying to copy GOOD brands like Spyderco and Benchmade
4)There cheap arclocks have failed on me a couple of times
5)They over price some of there knives for what they are.

SOG is by no means my favorite company out there, but I remain a fan despite the fact that they have recently been lacking innovation.

That's it in a nutshell from my point of view.

Regardless of what I think of their suspicious business plans, their stuff just doesn't really seem to appeal to me.

I only owned a SOG Aegis but man that was a crappy blade.
-Blade play to all side's.
-Way to light and very cheap feeling.
-Really annoying spring, almost impossible to close with 1 hand.

Sold it within a day and lost money so I will never buy a SOG again.
