why dont they use screws....it seems to me to be more logical to use screws than those rivets and you cant tighten the blade

I can think of a legal reason, and there might be more important practical reasons.

In some countries (like Australia) an adjustable screw can cause legal problems. If the screw is loose, and the blade can fall open, then the knife can be called a gravity knife (illegal in Australia).

By the end of the year the new Delica and Endura will be here. The FRN versions now use screws.

I'm sure it was cheaper to use the mashed pins. They actually weren't that bad, but I do prefer screws.

The end result of the expense would be increased cost to the buyer.

What little bit of blade play there is in a pinned blade vs a screw type is not going to affect the way it performs cutting tasks really. It can aid in cleaning out a gunked up blade pivot area or blood if used for field dressing and food prep though.

But most Spydercos are easy enough to clean out under a faucet and a high pressure air blast from your compressor or an air pump to get them back up to snuff with little worry since they are stainless and quite good at resisting corrosion.

The rivets on a linerless FRN handled knife probably work better and last longer than a pivot pin/screw setup would. No chance of overtightening the pivot.
