Well, at least one of the reasons :)

I acquired this on in the aftermarket. I had never used a Nessie style blade before, and to be honest I wasn't even all that excited about it. That is until I used it for the first time.

I have posted this info elsewhere, but without photos. I put this knife up to a series of tasks, against other similar length blades. In my opinion, the Nessie did everything better.

One thing that really stands out is making feathersticks. I belive it is because the curvature of the blade (or something :) but the curls just happen REAL easy. It also does small curls real easy. On to the pics:

This is maple by the way. Not my first choice for doing these, but it is all I have that is lying around at the moment:

I absolutely can't wait to get my Koster Nessmuk! From all I've seen, I can already tell you it will be my main carry.

I don't really know yet. My first finger fits in there great, and it fits naturally between the fingers. So, I don't really notice it. I have not used the knife in a way yet that I have needed it to be there. So, I really don't have an opinion at this point. I really need another one for comparison :)

If you check out the last photo of the knife, showing the choil, you will probably notice the edge has a little chamfer to it. I caught my index finger on it once, and that very sharp corner was the first thing to hit the sheath strap as well. I just took the bite off of it a bit.

That is sweet Big Dog..........

Are you gonna bring it down here and let me check it out when you come ? :p

I can't wait to get my Nessie !!

Dan.... hello ???? Are you there ????? I said I couldn't wait to get mine ... hint, hint :D

Yeah I've noticed I have to be careful taking the knife out of the sheath or else that little retention strap is going to get severed one of these days. Nice pics!

What kind of self-respecting knife nut would I be if I traveled 12 hours from home and didn't bring one of my favorite knives with me :D Of course I am bringing it.

Those Nessie's are nice little users!

I personally would rather not have the finger groove. I have handled them all and I just like the plain handle better.

Thanks for the review!

Tom

yeah....I personally don't like those finger things.....like on subhilts. I just prefer a normal handle, a little finger choil is okey but not a piece of tang sticking out....I have weak joints, lol....

but glad the NEssie is field-practical!

Nice user finish! Is that a mustard-patina?

This one was a challenge...!....I'm not sure if I'll do one again...kinda stressfull with all the "upgrades"...so enjoy your one-of-a-kind!

Glad to see it put to work.

I didn't realize that this one was a one of a kind! For half a second there, I almost felt bad about using it. But a mint knife in the closet, regardless of value isn't any fun to me. So, I am over it :) Besides, I love using it!

The finish if plain old mustard. I know that a half and half mixture of mustard and cold blue turns out really good looking. But, I know this will get used on food too, and I am always weary about chemicals and food. I would rather keep it natural. I hope in time it will darken nicely. It has already seen some blood, with no effects on the finish.

Dan did a fantastic job on this knife, and if it didn't need to find a new home I would have been all the luckier. I'm very happy to see it used, but am disappointed that Dan really wouldn't want to do another. It is one of the best knives I have ever owned and I wouldn't hesitate to have another made, if I knew I could hang on to it next time.
Brian, you are doing that blade right, and I am glad you are enjoying it.
