Well, at least one of the reasons 
I acquired this on in the aftermarket. I had never used a Nessie style blade before, and to be honest I wasn't even all that excited about it. That is until I used it for the first time.
I have posted this info elsewhere, but without photos. I put this knife up to a series of tasks, against other similar length blades. In my opinion, the Nessie did everything better.
One thing that really stands out is making feathersticks. I belive it is because the curvature of the blade (or something
but the curls just happen REAL easy. It also does small curls real easy. On to the pics:
