This is a knife I just picked up for a great price on the bay?

My question is, why in the hell would someone do this to a perfectly good knife? I mean, come on, at least if you are going to screw it up, do it symetrically.

I am sending it to Bob soon and thankfully he will rehandle it for me.

Perhaps one reason could be...Maybe,the guy got a bottle of Vodka, and a new Dremel kit for a birthday,or gift, and well, the rest is history ?...
Edited in,too...
dredd, what are you going to re -handle this with ?
I can picture this with green canvas micarta, like a modern look would go good with those teeth atop the spine

even if the handle didnt have these mods on it, i dont think the wood, nicely figured as it may be, works at all with this style of knife.

I think some micarta or a different guard or something would suit the knife better.

I remember this knife. It was a customer spec. The day after I finished it for him he showed back up with the handle all marred and coated with some sort of green paint to try to make it look a bit more camo(?). I' delighted to need to rehandle, really delighted. Bob Crowder

Nice to see you join the forums Bob. Welcome.

VCM3, I am going back with wood so it can be back to original.

So why in the HELL did you buy it, if you don't like it?

Pay attention Coldwood, I love the knife, it just needs to be rehandled and I knew that I could get Bob to take care of it for me.

And yes, VCM3, I will post photos after the makeover.

I just had some really nice amboyna burl stabilized after the OKCA show in April. Redder than this piece and with better figure. Bob Crowder

Update on rehandled knife. Beautiful piece of Cocobola really did the trick.

Thank You Bob!!!

Love cocobola and on this knife, the darker wood really stands out. Very nice!

Not that the original wood was a bad piece of wood (before it was desecrated that is), I am sorta happy it needed replacing because the chunk of cocobola that was used made the knife go from good looking to outstanding. The original wood was too light in color to pop like the darker wood does.
