I'm a novice collector. I just need to be nudged in the right direction. I'm in the market for a quality - up to $125 wide blade folding knife. I imagine the blade profile similar to the Microtech stitch. Open to brands but needs to have a quality steel

I'm not sure how wide you want, but my brother likes the A. G. Russell Folding Cook's Knife II that I got him over a year ago. Of course, he's a chef, but he never goes anywhere without that knife (except the airport).

Image from the A G Russell site, since I have no pics of his blade.

Enjoy.

That's actually pretty sweet. Not quite what I was thinking, but that's what this pose is about - to introduce myself to new things

That covers most of use when it comes to knives.
Doesn't take much to fall off the wagon.

The cold steel Colossus has a pretty wide smatchet shaped blade.

Totally what came to my mind. Don't have one. Don't need one. But it's wide.

That Colossus is pretty sweet. I was watching a review on YouTube and down a little further I saw a video for the 4 Max. That's a pretty sweet knife to. Just a little pricey unless I can find a used one on here

Sorry about that, I didn't realize how much it actually was.

Now if you keep an eye on the exchange here you may find one because it seems like something many may not keep too long. Just a bit unconventional and may not be practical for a lot of people.

The new ones have the upgraded BD1 Carpenter steel . Not as good as XHP but much improved from AUS8 . Very strong lock and nearly bulletproof overall .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I see now a Colossus 1 at auction that is right at the top of your budget . I've seen them cheaper yet . The Rajah 3 would be more pocketable , unless you like big . :)

Wide blade , great steel , DLC coating , well within budget ! :)

I've been looking a lot at the cold steel options. They have several designs that include my criteria. I think I'll be busy for awhile. I know it's kind of a novelty blade, but what do you guys think of the immortal? There are some really great suggestions in this thread

Kind of looks like a folding version of their gladius.
Personally while I do think it's kind of stupid, a lot of wacky looking blades are reviewed to cut well enough for most things.

I just bought this last month, and I'm super impressed with it. Boker Mojo (Anso design). 3.5" blade is very wide. G10 handles. Made by Fox Knives in Italy. blade steel is Bohler 690
Lock back so it's as solid as bank vault. Normally $200, but Boker has them for under $100 right now.

The Immortal is more fun than practical, but it's honestly still an all around solid knife. Just keep in mind that pulling it out is likely to attract some attention if there are people around. Mine is very satisfying to my inner mall ninja, but I never carry it alone and generally pair it with a Spyderco Urban or Chaparral.
