Will the Marbles compass fit the Mountaineer I?

Greetings. On some good advice and having read some posts on the matter here (good advice within itself), I recently purchased a Mountaineer I. I used to have a Sable IV, and I remember the diameter of the handle, inside of cap, etc., being larger than on this smaller Mountaineer I.

I'd like to install a compass, and I was wondering if the Marbles model would fit it. I tried one of the liquid-filled that snapped into place on a watchband, but it was too big.

Thanks in advance for any assistance

I have an Aviator which is the same size as the Mountaineer I. The inside of the butt cap measures 1/2". The Marbles compass is advertised as 1/2", so it should fit, though a slight bit of sanding on the butt cap or exterior or the compass might be necessary.

I just purchased a small Marbles compass for my CRK MRK IV. It will fit into the cap or the handle with room to spare. I mounted mine into the butt cap with a drop of silicone gasket sealer and it fits fine.

Torakan,
Where did you purchase the Marbles ball compass? Can they be had sterile, that is nothing attached to them? Thanks my friend.

I have a Marbles mini compass in both of my CR one piece models. They are small compasses like the ones Randall Made Knives used to put in the butt cap of their Model 18s. They aren't ball type but rather button type similar to the SAS type compasses.

I didn't mount mine with silicone because I didn't want to have to remove my cap and expose everything else in the handle to the elements and loss. How does the silicone work? Could you remove the compass easily if you so desired? I placed mine in the cap and then cushioned it with a tinder tab from my sparklite (which also rides in the handle).

I have a couple of spare mini compasses left if anyone has anything cool for trades let me know.

Thanks,

Rick

I got it from "RNPOLLARD" thru this forum.
It is not a ball compass but a very small dry compass with a glass top and brass case. I guess its sterile as it does'nt say Marbles any where on the compass. It fits perfect in the cap of my MK VI I still have the package and If you drop me an e-mail I will e-mail you the model # and part/stock #.

The Marbles compass I got from rnpollard is item# 091110 white face, minni compass, 1/2" dia. Get one from Rick, he was fast and very helpfull. The silicone sealer dries soft like rubber and put just a drop in the cap to just hold the compass. Should be able to pop it out fairly easy.

Rick,
I don't know what I'd have in trade for you. Do you want to sell a couple or where can I buy a couple? Thanks much.

Just to update this thread, I got the Marbles mini compass in the mail last week and it fit in the cap of the Mountaineer I with room to spare just like rodmeister had said. I used some epoxy resin to hold it in, buffered the compass from some strike-anywhere matches with a folded up Band-Aid (an essential itself), and have been carrying the Mountaineer I for about a week total now. I really really really really really really really really really really like it.

Thanks again for the info. BTW, Marbles is discontinuing the 1/2" compass, so if you've been thinking about getting one, now's the time.

I still have a couple left. Email for details. It is a shame that a quality product like this is being discontinued.
