I was surprised there wasn't a "woodworking tools" category, but since there isn't...

I'm looking for a set of woodworking chisels, preferably the "palm" type (short stubby handles flattened at the back so you can push with the palm) as opposed to straight handled, "screwdriver" type. I did a few searches with Google, but didn't turn up anything. Does anyone here have suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Carving.

Thank you! Just what I was looking for. Except for the price. :(

Any other suggestions? I wasn't really prepared to spend $185...

Ahh, so its wood carving Gouges you want (curved profile), not chisels (straight edges). Go to www.woodcraft.com for a large selection of standard woodwoorking chisels and carving tools of all sorts.

For hand carving, FlexCut gouges are really outstanding tools. See them at http://www.fallsrun.com/index.html

I have a wide assortment of these well designed and ergonomic gouges.

You are right about that Sorby micro-tool set being overpriced. :)

Another good online store for woodcarving is www.craftwoods.com

They have several different kinds of palm tools for you to choose as well as all sorts of other handy tools including some custom wood carving knives.

Check out Lee Valley Tools, one of the world's greatest stores for guys. They have an extensive selection of high quality wood carving tools, hones and books... and you'll be paying in the Canadian peso, currently around 60 cents to the real US dollar. I think it's www.leevalley.com.

I have and use some Flexcut carving knives, they are great. I have ordered from Woodcraft and LeeValley, both have great service and good prices.

Thanks for all the great replies! I've got some reading to do.

Here's something interesting I've found: An ultrasonic wood carving tool! Has anyone ever used such a thing? The website appears to be half Japanese, and does not list any prices. Anyone know what these cost?
