Well if you guys remember I was trying to sharpen my dad's buck odyssey with 420 hc. I had a bad burr on it, and you guys helped me remove it. I got it hair shaving sharp and push cutting through paper. Well at your guys advice I went and got a strop and chromium oxide. So I tried it on my dads odyssey, and I got it to hair whittling sharp. It only pulled about a one inch strip on the hair once. So its not as sharp as vassillis but thats sharp enough for me.
I also learned what I had read about the strop last night. I immediately tried it on my mini-grip it was time to touch it up so it wasnt as sharp as it needed to be before stropping. It did bring it back to shaving sharp but it will still catch on paper a little bit. Need to go back through it on the sharpmaker. thanks so much for all the advise and help guys.

The strop is a great tool. FYI there is no thing as sharp enough. I bet in a week or so you will try to see how sharp you can get the knife and the shaving sharp will not be acceptable.:p

I understand chinese man. In my mind I want to keep going and see if i can get it just hair whittling sharp. I also know though that from everything i've read everybody its just not a very useful edge. So I think i'll stick with trying to get it to about hair popping sharp maybe a little more :)

You should keep sharpening, stropping and such untill the hair of your arm/leg/whatever ...JUMPS IN FRIGHT AT THE SIGHT OF THE EDGE!!!! Next step would be to have them split in half just knowing you have your folder clipped in your pocket... but I guess that requires quite a lot of practice.

I want to be able to shave my face with my sak, anyone tried that?

I have a few SAKs that I can shave with from using a sharpmaker ultra fine rod and some tooth paste on a piece of cardboard. I have gotten a few hairs to pop off with no real contact to the skin, which I believe is called 'tree topping' sharp here.

I would not recommend shaving with a SAK. Its possible, but not overly pleasant with my level of sharpness.

I don't think it would be overly pleasant at any level of sharpness with the blade dimensions of a knife, even one as thin as an sak. a razor is a different animal, and razor edges fall apart doing things that don't affect knife edges much at all.
