There hasn't been any "Work In Progress" threads for a while, so Bill thought this would be a good time to start one. BF member, MyAGunn, came up with a design a while back and Bill is now bringing this one to life. The design is called the "KDC" (Kentucky Daily Carry), and according to MyAGunn, it's an all-around user blade. After seeing this design, I asked Bill to make one for me as well, so that is why you see two blades in the pictures.
On a side note, the two profiled blades that you see are identical to MyAGunn's design, but the mind blowing part is that Bill took ONE look at the drawing and then turned around to the belt grinder and knocked out two almost identical profiled blades without looking back at the drawing. You have to be truly gifted to accomplish that...but, in Bill's case, somethin' just ain't right with that boy....
Hope you all enjoy the journey of this thread.
Bill profiling the blades:

Sparks flying in the shop:

Drilled for pins and lanyard:

Bill putting the blades in the fire:

Blades in the fiery forge:

Coming out of the fire:

Cooling down:

"WIP" of the "KDC" part 2: Here's a little music to go along with today's pics (the perfect music to quench a blade...

Bill doing a little work before the quench begins:

Starting the quenching process:

Smoke on the Water (Oil in this case):

After being quenched:

Bill cleaning up the blades:

Blades getting ready for the heat treatment:

Cutting the micarta while blades are in the oven:

Out of the oven and starting the "Antique finish":

"WIP" for the "KDC" part 3:
Bill putting the "Convicious" convex on one of the blades:

Hitting the edge with some leather:

Riverwarrior testing the edge on thin magazine paper:

Riverwarrior's overwhelming sign of approval

Tan canvas micarta scales being glued up:

Bill starting the shaping process:

More contouring of the scales:

"WIP" for the "KDC" part 4: This is the finished blade for the design of forum member "MyAGunn". Here are specs of his "KDC" (Kentucky Field Carry):
8.50" OAL
3 7/8" blade length
1/8" blade thickness
1095
"Convicious" Convex
Antique Finish
Tan Canvas Micarta w/ black micarta pins

Congrats to "MyAGunn" for an awesome design and a HUGE thanks to Bill for allowing all of us to see how the magic is done! Hope everyone has enjoyed this journey.
