Okay, here's the final outcome of our WWIII project: a World War blade, blued, with a full tang. Handle material will be white or black micarta. Sheath will be a Kydex sheath made by Edge Works (in addition to the regular sheath, which will also be included). Chakma and Karda will be buffalo-horn handled with blued blades. Blade will be marked WWIII, and will also be numbered. I'm going to do 25 of these. Of course, this project may fail entirely, or the end product might change a slight bit. However, my intent is to have these WWIIIs ready before Christmas.

Anybody who wants one, please email me with your request, along with your prefered handle color. The order in which I receive the emails will determine your position on the list. Number One is already spoken for, but I think that 25 is certainly enough to go around, with a few left over. If I do happen to get an overwhelming response to this special, I'll try to get more blades ordered before Lalit finishes them and sends the latest order to the states.

I'll continue to modify this thread, listing the handles and positions of customers. If you prefer to remain anonymous, just say so in your email and your request will be honored. And my apologies in advance for the method of distribution here. I know that some of you won't see this post due to your schedules, but I couldn't think of a fairer way to do it.

I should have a prototype of the sheath in a few weeks. When I get it, I'll post a picture on the forum.

Just too many forums to keep up with here......just what is the item offered?
The thread seems to lack a beginning.
And, whatever it is, how much is it ?
Sounds like a user kukhri.....wouldn't mind one of those. And my Mastercard is healing nicely

Wanna fill in the newcomers and recently returned, Craig ?

Sorry, Brian. If you'll look for a 41 posting thread called "Modern Khukuri (I didn't say the T word)" you'll find all you need to know. It's going to be a fun project if we are blessed enough to have it come to fruition.

Okay, at end of day, here's the tally so far:

1. Berkely
2. A. Simpson
3. Blackdog
4. C. Cleve
5. M. Travis
6. Marcus (who started all of this)

I think that they'll be plenty to go around at 25 khukuris, with a few left over for stragglers. I'll keep watch on this thread for more additions to the list. I'll watch the email.

The WW111 looks like it will be a beauty.

Day two, and here's the list:

1. Berkeley
2. A. Simpson
3. Blackdog
4. C. Cleve
5. M. Travis
6. Marcus
7. John Mahler
8. Ugly Jim
9. Nisarg
10. B. Milligan
11. B. Boyd
12. Tallwingedgoat

A note about price: I don't know what it will cost, but, as one future owner said, if he knows my pricing habits, it will definitely be worth it. He's right - it'll be reasonably priced. Another future-owner asked if non-forumites can get one. Sure - that's no problem. There should be enough to go around.

(Watch it... this may be a couble post... my machine if sneezing))

can you provide a rough drawing/schetch of what you believe will be the final outcome???

WWIII people: I just got a photo of the early prototype from EdgeWorks. I'm posting it on another thread entitled "EdgeWorks Kydex Prototype for Khukuri." Check it out and leave any suggestions. For simplicity's sake, please keep comments about the sheath on that thread, and comments about the knife or the project as a whole on this one. Thanks!

Craig.

Just one quick question, and it may be a bit early to ask but what type of micarta have you been thinking of using for the grip slabs? I think bead blasted canvas micarta would be very appropriate for the blace gripped ones. For the white, that may tend to get dirty fast. Maybe polished linen micarta for those? Y`know sort of a classy tuxedo look?
wink.gif
BTW out of curiosity have you gotten many requests for white? Just wondering. Lastly if the karda could be a little bigger than normal and finished/heat treated a bit better it would be really super. I know they`re really more tradition than anything on most khukuris this size but for the WW3 a really usable one would make a lot of sense IMO. Marcus

Marcus, Good suggestions. As for the white micarta, not much interest. I had one request for green, though. Anyway, here's the tally so far:

1. Berkeley
2. Andre Simpson
3. Blackdog
4. C. Cleve
5. M. Travis
6. Marcus
7. J. Mahler
8. Ugly Jim
9. Nisarg
10. B. Milligan
11. B. Boyd
12. Tallwingedgoat
13. M. Draper
14. MadDog
15. B. White
16. Anonymous (you know who you are)
17. T. Brown (friend of blackdog)
18. B. Schuchart

Got 7 more. I'm sure they'll be gone by the time the blades get here. And as for the micarta material, I think whatever is most functional will do the job.

Regards,

Craig.

Just an update: spoke with Lalit this morning, and we confirmed the WWIII blade pattern. Also spoke with my source for doing the scales, and he's going to order the micarta on Monday. Mostly black, with a couple of whites and one olive (you know who you are).

Craig.

What color is olive? Is it more green or tan? Actually I'd prefer a khaki color if there is that option. Black sheath, blued blade, black micarta -- just too dark for me.

One more thing. How many screws in the handle? I vote for 3. You can lose one, and the scales will still hold together.

I do not mean to be rude. But this question has been bugging me for some time. What is a tailwingedgoat??

It's just a pun on my Chinese name. My name translates to "soar" but it is a character of one goat with a pair of wings. My surname means "tall, or high."

I used this handle as a joke, but the name stuck.

If it makes you feel more comfortable, you can call me Richard.

Thanks for telling me Richard. For what its worth I go by coyote because some of the people I work with state that that is the single word that best describes me. I don'
t know what to think of that. Also amongst other animals we raise goats and despite what people often say about them I think that they are pretty cool livestock.

Brian
