I'm new to this forum -- found it by doing a search on "bladerigger." I stumbled across BladeRigger's site a few days ago, & was intregued by the knives --- seem to have well thought out designs & a lot of thought put into the carry systems.

Then I noticed the prices..... There was one knife in paticular that caught my attention (the Alpha?) --- it was a bare handled 7 inch blade with sort of a tanto design. No handle, 1/16th inch thick steel, and almost fainted at the $195 price!

Wow, why are these knives so expensive???

They're not mass produced, even the Semi-Customs are hand crafted.

I can only assume you are referring to the Checkbook Blade...you get a nice Checkbook with it and the Kydex Sheath is fixed in the Checkbook as well. Checkbook Alpha, correct?

Nice things are often expensive, as you will find out quickly in the knife/gun/tactical world.

Don is right. Custom knives (or "semi-custom for that matter) can be pricey, but people will pay whatever the price if they want it badly enough. With handmade knives as opposed to production knives, you are getting a product made with the experience, skill, and artistry of the maker. Perhaps that is why they may cost more. On the otherhand, there are custom handmade knives that are priced less than production knives too. For some people, a knife is a knife. For others, knives are art, functional tools, and handcrafted item worth the price.

Hello Knife 141-
Welcome to the Forums-
As you read along, you'll find that the $200.00 mark isn't at all unusual for handmade knives- especially those by makers whose work hovers in the $350.00 & up range.
Quality is expensive & there are factors such as heat treat, etc. that are not readily apparent. BTW- where did you find the link on that nice little $60.00 knife? There's no link to the maker, etc.
Many thanks-
Mike

Thanks for the kind words. I made the little knife --- I've been making knives for around 16 years, but other than neck knives, really don't do much tactical stuff (except for bowies, daggers, & fighters!). The little $60 knife was one I originally designed to fit into a little leather notepad I always carry in my pocket. I liked it so much I now generally have 2-3 on me at all times!

BTW I have photos of a few of my other knives at the following:
