Yari Spine Whack Test - It Passed!!!

I took one of these knives out after work this evening and beat it against a hunk of wood. The lock held strong as any I've ever seen.

I don't know if Gerber has patented this locking mechanism, but they should. I'd sure like to pick the brain of the guy who came up with this system. There is definately no way this thing is gonna close accidentally !

The knife came with very few instructions and I can't figure out how to fold it.

Any help would be appreciated.

My Strider MT folded on me while I was dispatching ninja sentries while on a secret mission. It severed my index finger, but I'm a tough guy and I finished the other ninjas off with a spinning roundhouse kick. I can't tell you any more, sorry. This proves that Strider knives are crap and/or I'm the strongest man in the world. Fear me.

Angus,
Your post is somewhat confusing for me.
GERBER Yari is fixed blade as to my knowledge and personal experience (I have one). So I would be pretty surprised if it wouldn’t pass spine whacking test...
Is it some kind of humor what I do not understand or are you messing some knives?

Oppss, one possibility more! Maybe it is pretty special spine whacking test, with somewhat extended (gently saying) force? Tell me please, did BENCHMADE Nimravus or, say, FALLKNIVEN S1 passed the same test? Just for comparison...

Some of those damn Yari's are pretty damn stiff when you first get them. You're going to have to hacksaw down 3/4 of the width of the blade. It should close easier that way.

You girlie-men are just not spine-whacking your Yaris hard enough. Afraid of chipping a nail or something?

You close these by clamping the handle in a vice and folding the blade sideways. You may need to slip a long piece of pipe over the blade for leverage the first time you close it. It should fold much easier the second time.

If you're unsuccessful in getting the Yari to fail a spine-whacking test, then it is only logical to next attempt the "Head-Whacking Test!"

Let us know how you "feel" after that last test. ;)

I actually was doing the SpinePound test and it held up.

What a knife!

PB,

Let's hear more of your intercranial adventures!

Serguisz,

The Yari's sold in the U.S. are folding versions. Bill CLinton outlawed the fixed version when he was president. Said the blade was too straight. Whatever the heck that means.

I did the head whacking test years ago and ended up in the Marines.
Once was enough ! OOH RAH ! KILL KILL KILL!!!
