You get one CRKT folder for EDC and heavy use.......which one would you choose and why? If not a CRKT....pick another folder at around $175.00 or below.
Remember...you only get to choose one. Pictures are good too.

Mike

if you mean by "heavy use" get hard with the knife I will say a Buck Strider... But for all the "normal task" people can ask to a folding knife I will say Benchmade AFCK...

Hawk D.O.G or the EDC in 154 CM ...but since you said $175.00 how about both and have money left over for lunch!

Hawk D.O.G love the lock, rock solid, built like a tank. Could be better steel but for the money a tough knife.

EDC in 154 CM, Great blade steel, good lock up. Handle might be a little small for what some consider heavy use (grip wise).

Another to look at would be the M-18. Big beefy blade and handle. Once again could be a better steel but still a great knife and value.

Paul,

I said "If not a CRKT....pick another folder at around $175.00 or below."

For you Paul....if not a folder, what then?

Pick one man, we're depending on you!
;)

OK, under $175.....Spyderco Delica. Same price range as most CRK&Ts and a whole lot more solid. Spyderco's lock back pounds CRK&T's liner lock into the ground and is far less likely to fail. I would choose a Queen slip joint over CRK&T. YMMV.:D

Right on Paul.......see, wasn't that fun!!!? That's exactly the kind of participation that makes this place great to be a part of. :)

The rest of you....pony-up an opinion here! If Paul can do it, so can you.

Thanks again!
Mike

I'm taking this to be a hypothetical situation where I'm going to be left in the woods for a month or have to fight a bear or something else extreme and all I get to take with me is one CRKT folding knife.

Tough Choice... Off the top of my head probably the Crawford/Kasper professional, plain edge. Maybe something in the M16 series... I think they're all AUS 8 steel and similar handle materials are available for each pattern but I can't swear to it.

I've used an M16 for a work knife for quite a while and it held up very well.

CRKT folder, screw that. CRKT BearClaw. Nice enough for EDC, concealable (horizontal belt carry owns!), and plenty tough. I've had mine for uhh 3 or 4 years I think.

But being limited to a folder for heavy use the Hawk D.O.G. is one hardcore blade. I intend to get one soon.

P.S. I'm very biased. The CRKT BladeLock is the reason I got into knives, good quailty, excellent design, moderate prices.

CRKT Folder, Ryan 7, FB Companion.

RH, how's the Cascade working out?

I have the ultimate CRKT knife,
and that would be the Viele ltd. edition wasp.
Carbon Fiber handle and smooth as a baby's bottom.
High end steel is also used. (not sure which)

Smoke, I don't have one, but I'd like to pick one up cheap or used. I am anti-linerlock, so CRKT doesn't leave me much. I like the looks of the Cascade - upswept blade, comfy looking handle with a half-guard front & rear, fingergrooves, and a lockback.

I haven't heard anything about it since it's release. On the one hand I'd like to see it sell well so makers make more lockbacks, on the other hand it might appear in the SMKW closeouts soon for cheap!

i don't like crkt spear type blades for everyday... but if i had to choose, i would go with m16-12 titanium.

like the looks, it's lite weight, and really tough.

I got an M-16 a while back - didn't like it. But one CKRT which has suprisingly exceeded my expecations is the Urban Shark, by Greg Lightfoot. Great little blade, rock solid lock, light and easy to carry. It's also a knife I am quite comfy loaning to other people.

Camillus Dominator for a smaller knife. Excellent materials, assisted opening that can be turned to manual if desired. Frame lock designed by Darrel Ralph (VERY STRONG).

Bigger knife - CUDA Maxx - One of the strongest folders going. Excellent materials, Darrel Ralph design!

CRKT Prowler. Very overlooked and underrated CRKT knife. Very beefy and LAWKS. Marzitelli...blah, blah, blah...

(Notice I only said CRKT! ;) )
