I am thinking of ordering my first Great Eastern here in the next few days, and am having a seriously hard time deciding which one I want.

I really like the Muskrat Furtaker model, but the EZ Open Spearpoint model is appealing as well.

And then there is the Cuban, and the Moose, and on and on.

What is your favorite?

Barlow in Cameo Bone
Small in the pocket but cuts!

I own(ed) three different models, #25, #53, and #73. The others really don't interest me that much. The #52 Cuban is big and round, a GREAT knife but not front pocket friendly at all IMHO. The #25 is a great little knife and I like it allot, but it is pretty small. My favorite by far is the#73, or Scout pattern. Mine is the 2 blade "Trapper" pattern by Northfield. It has 1095 blades with long pull nail nicks, and has Burnt Stag scales. I haven't handled the Pioneer (#23) but at it's size I would need a belt sheath to carry comfortably.

Of course your favorite will be a matter of personal preference. I don't think you will go wrong with anything they make. For my money the #73 series is the best so far.

I like the No.73 Liner lock version a lot. I hear on the grapevine, that GEC is planning on a lockback knife too, that I'm interested in. All 73 patterns are very practical.

The No.25 works best as a single blade in my exp. being short&sturdy it can come a bit thick and bulky with 2 blades. The Amber Bone spear blade EZ Open is a very fine knife indeed, slim but strong. Don't be fooled by the words EZ Open, it's only in relation to other GEC knives!

I'm brooding about one of their Congress knives, it's one of the few patterns of knife I don't own. anybody have exp with GEC Congress, the Tortoiseshell looks a must have.

I have a #25 Wharncliff barlow , a #23 Pioneer and a #54 Harness Jack clip point. Fave of the three and most used and carried is the #25.

Hi guys. Not to hijack, but I wanted to give you a heads up.

Last year I sent Christine (Nice lady) at GEC this slab of cocobolo about 24"

long with a few other chunks.

I did not think to take some pics of the other chunks :(

They are very dark swirly Mexican coco.

I had to wait for GEC to make a run of coco production.

I am 99% sure the Furtaker is the next model in line for it :D

If you are a coco guy there will be a bunch of it left after my new favorite

GEC is made

I only currently have two GEC's, and while I like them both, I think I like this one the most. GEC toothpick in burnt stag and 1095 steel.

I have a couple #23 pioneers and they are big knives. I really like the feel and heft to these but I don't carry them. I have a 25 EO in river blue that I carry often and find to be a great knife. I would say some type of 25 that you like based upon the size and chance that you will find it easy to carry.

Here is a link to my #25 EO.

Enjoy!

Do the 73's have half stops? I had a 25 and it had half stops, and seemed to get harder to pull open AFTER the half stop was reached. Personally don't care for half stops, but on a knife with this strong of a pull, maybe half stops are a good idea. I believe Glocktenman may have referred to this on another thread.

Anyway, thinking on getting a 73, and was wondering about the half stops.

Thanks!

I like a strong backspring, but I don't like nailbreakers.

Does the Scout have swedged blades? I love that feature.

The appeal of the EZ open is the ease of opening. I am not wild about only a spear or sheepsfoot blade, though.

my favorite depends where i am. on the ranch the #23 in belt sheath,in town wearing levis its the toothpick. if i'm in kakais or slacks i go with the single blade 73. all in 1095 of course.

Mine does, and as far as I know they all do.

Mine does, as you should be able to see pretty clearly in the 4th photo, but not all of them do.
When shopping online, be sure to contact the seller before you buy and confirm that the photo they show on their site is the actual knife you will get. If not, ask for a few photos to get the best idea possible of exactly what you will be buying. If the people you are dealing with can't or wont accommodate you, PM/email me and I will give you a few stores to try.

I have a #54 Big Jack with burnt stag scales, and I think it's my favorite pattern from them. I also like the Cuban stockman, and the #23. Their Sunfish is awesome, too. The EZ Open is a really small knife, but I still have two of them.

BTW--In general, the Northfield ones have blade swedges, and the Tidioute donot.

I have three: a 2-blade 73, a Barlow, and a toothpick. The 73 is about perfect for me - big enough to handle anything, including food prep, and still okay to pocket carry. The toothpick has only been around a month, but I really like it. It carries quite comfortably in the pocket, but is big enough to handle pretty much anything I need to do. The Barlow is well made and is a great small knife, but the blades are too short for my tastes.

I have:

And I like them both very much. Havent had them long enough to pick a favorite:)
