On the differences between the select/avid/pro versions. Do y'all think the extra money is worth it for what you get? I'm curious to hear what people think. Thanks!

IMO the avid is just as good as the Pro with a bit of a break on the price tag. Both have up graded steel but the differences in performance dont merit the price tag of the Pro. I like the 13C26 better than the S30v any way...

The select is just the 420Hc and is a great steel but if you want the upgraded steel the Avid is the way to go.

Wow, thats a tough question. Handle material differences, blade steel differences,Price differences...personally I have a pro and was pleasantly surprised by the performance of
the S30V steel. diamond wood is very nice looking and IMHO 13c26 sharpens a little easyer than S30V. 420HC steel is great for a regular user..Sharpens easily, takes a good edge, decent wear. the choice really boils down to what you want the knife to do for YOU.
There have been some pretty good threads on this forum about the Vantages and a little seaching will reveal lots of info.
Good Luck and let us know what you decide.

All other things being equal, I'll take 13c26 Sandvik steel.

Also, the handle material on the Vantage and the Paradigm is smoother and doesn't tear up my pocket.

In general, I would say I prefer the Avid in all the ones I've seen so far.

Now, if we could just get the 301 and 105 done in the Avid configuration, that would be awesome.

And how about a 110 and 112 Avid?

Just sayin'.

:D

Actually, the standard 110 and 112's are considered Avid level, so would upgrade to "midgrade" steel move it to Pro level?

You can't go wrong either way. I have gotten used to sharpening S30V so I stick with that.
