I have an 0550 that seems to catch up while opening on two small divots that are in the blade where the detent ball travels, just before the lockbar engages. Anyone else have this issue? You can actually see the two small divots in the blade tang.

The one I have with me doesn't do that at all, call the warranty department they may just have u send it in, they are great to work with and turn around is good and quick.

Is it really an "issue"? does the knife cut and lock appropriately. Can you open it in a smooth movement with your thumb? Is the blade scraping against the liner at any point?

I'll try to be a little more helpful than some previous posts.

First, how long have you had it? If it's relatively new, keep working it. Technique is everything, and it will "wear in," in a relatively short time. If you've had it awhile and it's not improved, it might benefit from a trip to customer service. That said.......

My 550 came last week. For the first two days, it was hard to open. Then two things happened, my technique improved, and the knife "wore in" to some degree. Which was greater, I can't tell you.

Smoothness of opening will improve, both for fast opening, and slow opening, over time, as your technique improves.

Watch the fast opening technique. Use the top of the thumb nail, and flick rapidly upward, rather than pushing outward with the top of the thumb pad.

If your 550 is still slow to open, that's okay; a knife is a machine. Make sure you're not pushing in on the frame lock at the same time you try to push out on the blade. Then, open the knife slowly.

Like I said, mine took two days to loosen up and me to figure out the best way to deploy the blade quickly.

Once you've mastered the technique, and learned your knife, and it's worn in a little, you'll be very happy with your 550.

Hope that helps.

I'm use to the Spyderco hole and kershaw flipper so when I got my ZT 550 I had trouble opening it with the thum stud. I notice that when opening it wasn't smooth. After two days went by of me trying to see what was wrong with it I notice that I was pushing on the frame lock so the blade was getting hung up when opening . I stop pushing on it and BINGO smooth opening love the 550 .

There were two visible divots in the tang, I doubt it would have worn in. Its on the way back to ZT.

Thanks for the helpful post, hard to come by here it seems.

I hope that you're able to have the problem rectified soon!
As an aside, I've never had any difficulty finding help on this board even if the issue was caused by user error on my part.
Good luck!
