A few months ago I ordered my ZT 0560 and when I received it I loved everything about it but discovered mine had some up and down blade play. Blade play would go away when I pushed the lockbar in further so I wrote ZT Customer Service and told them and they said to send it in, so I did. A few weeks later it was sent back to me and nothing had changed (they also sent me someone elses knife by mistake as well). I wrote ZT again and they gave me a prepaid shipping label to return both knives so once again I did. The UPS train carrying my knife derailed and delayed delivery close to a month which sucked but not ZT's fault. I received my knife back again and at first it seemed a LITTLE better (not fixed) it seems to have gotten worst after flipping it a few hundred times.

So my question is does anyone elses knife have this slight up and down blade play? And is it worth me sending the thing in for a 3rd time? Some say it is caused by the titanium lockbar flexing but none of my other titanium frame locks have it. I can actually hold the knife in one hand and use my thumb to press on the blade and feel/hear a slight click every time I press down. Would greatly appreciate any info/advice.

I'd send it back. Mine is rock solid so far, and I've flipped it quite a bit. not "hundreds" of times, but a decent amount, just playing. I don't flip it hard, though. Just normally, like I do when I actually open it to use it.

If it was not supposed to be flipped, it wouldn't have a flipper.

Mine was slipping a bit, so I sent it in. Came back today with a slightly stiffer lockbar and zero blade play. So far, so good.

Any chance you have a bit of lube or oil on the surfaces of your lockbar or blade tang? This can cause for some blade play at times. Make sure that these areas are wiped clear of any oil and you should lose at least some of the blade play.

Sent my zt 0560 in 2 times. First time to adjust the edge: came back with a better edge, but with vertical play that wasn't there before. Sent it in again for the blade play, but it is exactly the same.

That's life though, I'll either sell it or send it back in.

mine has a slight up and down play but when i look at the lock bar as i put pressure on the blade i can see the lock bar flexing downward so i do not worry, if it ever gets worse i will send it in but unless it down i am fine with it.

btw the slight click could be gunk on the lock bar causing the tang to slip, take it apart and clean it then see if that helps.

my brand new ZT0550 has light vertical play (i got it today). not too worried about it. when i hold the knife in my hand and even light pressure on the lock bar will prevent the blade play. but it's still a bummer. i don't want to change it.. i jumped on this purchase since i like the "older" version of ZT0550. don't care too much about deep carry clip and the cut out on the outside. not sure i want to send it in. i read ton of posts on it, it seems in most cases, the part is replace and the problem does not go away. i mean, i love this knife. i think there are two things that can solve the problem. 1) replace the blade with longer tang or 2) rework the lock bar and bend it further in.

i want to work with ZT CS and see if i can do something to solve it at my home. i don't really want any parts being changed out of mine. it's all perfect. well other than the that tinyb vertical play.

As suggested I cleaned off the locking faces (with some degreaser and a cue tip). And even tried the readjusting technique in the video. Neither worked. I wrote my contact at ZT (who btw has been very helpful) and asked for another return shipping label. I am thinking of requesting a replacement rather than just a repair. Would it be too much to ask? I did return that other guys knife afterall and saved them the cost of having to furnish him with a brand new one, his knife was marked sentimental as well! Its funny but I went through this exact same dance with leatherman not too long ago. Great customer service department, just not a very good repair department.

Edit: I forgot to mention that when I received my knife back this time that they must of changed the locking side. The scaling on the lock side of the knife (at the spine) actually comes down to the middle of the spine on a certain spot towards the bottom of the handle. It looks like someone "slipped" on the scaling in the titanium and and made drag marks. Most would consider this a blemish but I could of lived with that.
