Still haven't gotten mine...but it's on "order" and paying $92. and some change for it shipped.
Thinking about cancelling my order...or selling it, if it comes in good shape?

Not sure what to do. My knife "craze" died down.

I think mine was from the same place. I sent an email to cancel and they informed me the charge had never been processed and they had already cancelled for me due to the discontinuation. I didn't like the fact that they never actually let me know, but whatever. You may want to contact them.

This is what she told me...

" I know that they informed us mid September so we have to go off of that ETA"

Interesting. Well with no more being produced and they haven't gotten any in, it's not looking good.

The official word is that they were discontinued, around 300 made it out the door, and they aren't exactly equipping the facility for repairs and direct replacements. They couldn't fix one of mine I sent in, and ended up replacing it with a 0700. There aren't any, far as has been said, being made for another shipment, so their ETA is not correct.

I'd cancel, or just remain hopeful.

The rep told my Dad about his, they are rebuilding some, we took it to mean to satisfy the ones that were returned. He said it would be a month before he could expect to have a rebuilt 0780 sent to him. So no I don't think there's going to be any brand new ones coming out. ZT's heart just didn't see to be in this model for some reason, why I have no ideal.

Hmm... they are replacing mine.

I'm glad I got one, other than the scale screw holes not lining up if I wanted to change the clip position (which I don't) mine has been perfect. I have one more on preorder for a very good price from a certain LE supply on the left coast, but I doubt if I'll ever get it now. With only 300 made, the ones out there in the wild can only go up in value. I was going to carry mine, but for now it will stay in the safe. Here's some porn anyway.

My 0780 sits in my bin acting as a paper weight not to be touched in fear that it will break. This is a very horrible feeling that I can't get over! I can't trust it. -- I love my 0780 but would rather part ways with it to get something else.

The fundementals of the knife are great, its a Skyline on steroids, its just too bad its rough around the edges and wasn't executed in a true ZT fashion. I still find it odd that they were all sent out with any type of ZT stamp on the clip which leads me to believe that this was rushed out the gates! It's too bad because they may have lost some of their customers loyalty after experiencing both the lack 0780's to people who waited to buy one and the ones who have had quality control issues.

Bottom line, every time the 0780 is brought up on these forums, it is inevitable that majority of owners chime in with their problems with fit and finish so maybe its best that you can't get your 0780.

sent two back but the third i ordered was fine...i don't know why you would want kershaw spelled out on the clip, the point of the deep carry pocket clip is so people don't know you have a knife in your pocket..

The 0780 is like any other knife, the happy owners are rarely heard from and the people with problems vocalize/vent more readily.

We don't know what the percentage of the knives shipped that had problems is but we like guess and make up a bunch of crap up. Usually is is a small percent. Seems like a higher percent in the 0780's case but we don't know that for sure.

The F&F on my examples are of ZT standards and the 0780 is a great size well built knife. One lots knife nuts have been asking for from ZT. The myth behind why QT was lax (if it was) and the model discontinued, may never be revealed but speculation just seems to build it's own myth and create a very distorted picture that develop in peoples minds .

It is certainly built beefier than the Skyline and is not going to break unless one does stupid things that usually results in damage. The Skyline is tried a true with lots of owners with many years of happy service, the 0780 for sure looks like it would out last a Skyline, it just doesn't have the company support as discontinued model.

If you are a collector be happy to own one. If you really don't "collect" knives but use all of them, use the 0780 with confidence. I seems silly to me that one should feel it is going to let you down. That is a distorted image with no valid backing. The knife is very substantial and well built, the QC problems don't effect the solid examples.

Well no the poor QC ones doesn't affect the good ones, I have two solid 0780's I wouldn't be afraid to use either of them. If you got one that locks up solid it's nothing to be afraid of using.

I can't agree. I bought three of them, and they all had similar issues, but one just had the least noticeable blade play, so that's the one I kept. Yeah, my sample size is only three, but they were bought from different sources and had serial numbers 0234, 0124, and 0058 (or 0059, not sure as I sent that one to ZT), so they were spread out in production. My experience seems similar to those of a couple others, so I wouldn't say my assessment was too far off.

My luck with ZTs has been pretty bad in general, but despite my complaints, I stay a very very loyal customer. Obviously the ones with issues don't affect the ones that are great, but since there's little chance of having one repaired or replaced, I'm likely not going to really use the one I have left. It's fine though, I love it, play with it, and enjoy owning it, as I do every ZT I have, despite the frustration I sometimes get.
