ZT Model Names

I'm just curious if there was any significance to the ZT knife model #s. I think i saw a video once where they wanted to keep the ZT names simple so they opted to go by model numbers. Do the model numbers follow the number of knives Kai produced? If this was discussed before please link, I tried a search with no luck.

Now the fun part, what would you name the ZT models?

ZT301 = ZT Tank? Big Ass Knife/BAK? Godzilla?
ZT350 = ZT Mini-Tank? Mighty Midget?

Well you get the point

I think the model numbers try to follow some form of logic.

100 series- fixed blades
300 series- Onion/Strider collab
500 series- Hinderer collabs
600 series- hopefully more RJ collabs
700 series- in house folders

Did not include the 0400 or the 0500 as they are older, discontinued models.

Wait are you saying the 2012 700 numbered knives are discontinued? How can that be? As far as I've seen, they are only just starting to become available!

I don't think that is true. The 0700, 0750, and 0780 are all listed in the 2012 catalog. :confused:

i stand corrected.

it seems like every model is turning into a sprint run now. i know the ZT line is not about high-volume sales to the general public, but it makes me sad that so many are discontinued before even all of the "enthusiasts" can get their hands on them. :(

If I had to guess, from the time they announced the 700 series of knives until it was time to produce them, there was a change in the culture at ZT. I think they are looking to move further up market and cannot use up valuable production time/resources etc on lower cost knives.

They already committed to building them and people took preorders so I'm guessing they did one production run of each knife and then discontinued them.

Just a guess.
